Lakers Rumors: Acquiring Ramon Sessions Would Be Best Move for LA
The Los Angeles Lakers are reaching the point of no return this season with the NBA trade deadline just a few hours away, but there are certainly options out there for them to pursue.
Point guard is obviously the biggest need the team has. Ramon Sessions has been on the market virtually all season. With everyone else worth anything likely too pricey for the Lakers, he would be the perfect addition to the lineup.
According to Sam Amico of Fox Sports Ohio, the Lakers have increased their efforts to land Sessions from the Cleveland Cavaliers.
"According to one source, the Lakers’ interest in Sessions appeared to peak around All-Star weekend, but dwindled quickly when they learned the Cavs’ wouldn’t budge from receiving a first-round draft pick in return. But after exploring the market for a point guard, “the Lakers are finding a deal for Sessions may be the best fit,” a source said.
"
Other teams have called the Cavs about Sessions, but the Lakers are said to be the favorites. They have been hesitant to give up a first-round pick for him, however, because he can opt out of his contract at season‘s end.
Draft picks in the NBA are far different than in any other sport. Once you get past the lottery, it is a struggle to find anyone who is going to make an instant impact. Given where the Lakers often pick, a first-round selection should have no qualms about making this deal work.
Sessions is an underrated point guard. He is not a star, by any means, but he is young, athletic and comfortable running an offense. Those attributes alone make him a significant upgrade for the Lakers.
With just over one month to go before the postseason begins, the Lakers have to do something. Standing pat with what they have is not going to work for this group of players, which is why there have been so many different rumors surrounding them.
Blowing up the ship by trading someone like Pau Gasol doesn't make sense, so that limits the options available to the Lakers. Sessions is a low-risk, high-reward player who could make the Lakers a favorite in the Western Conference, which is far better than what they are right now.
