Matt Flynn Rumors: Browns Must Reverse Stance and Sign Matt Flynn
It's not exactly a surprise that the Cleveland Browns have an anemic offense. As the free agency period is now underway, the Browns need to get real and understand that they need an overhaul in a big way.
According to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Browns aren't currently in pursuit of free agent Matt Flynn:
"BREAKING: #Browns have not pursued GB QB Matt Flynn and reports that they're set to make offer untrue, league source tells PD.

At the very least, the Browns need to be going after Flynn aggressively. The Browns haven't had a franchise quarterback for an awfully long time, and there are a few reasons why Flynn is the best option for them.
He's Good
Flynn has put up some dazzling numbers in a limited time. Yes, I know we're only talking about two career starts, but look at how those have gone.
Now consider that both of those opponents were playoff teams. Flynn went out there against good teams that had a lot to play for and did fine.
Give him 16 games under center and the numbers will show up. That is a stabilizing force at the quarterback position, something the Browns sorely lack, which takes us right to another good reason why Flynn needs to be the man in Cleveland.
McCoy hasn't exactly proven himself to be a franchise quarterback in his two years in the NFL. After all, we're looking at a quarterback who's completed fewer than 60 percent of his passes, has as many interceptions as touchdowns and boasts a 6-15 career record.
The Browns shouldn't go reaching for a quarterback to replace him or anything, but if someone available has proven that he can get it done in the NFL, then they need to replace McCoy.
If we're looking at these two quarterbacks, trying to figure out who's going to be better over the next five years, the answer is Flynn, and it's not close. McCoy will never be anything more than a guy to fill in when an injury happens. He is not a quarterback to build around.
NFL Draft
First of all, if you believe that the first two picks will be anyone but Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III, my hat is off to you and your obviously stellar imagination. The fact of the matter is that one is going to the Colts, the other is going to the Redskins and the Browns at No. 4 are out of the sweepstakes.
Now, that doesn't mean that the Browns can't have an extremely productive first round. They can.
With the two quarterbacks going first and second, either Justin Blackmon or Trent Richardson will be available at the fourth pick. Whatever hole is not filled there can be filled with the Browns' second first-round pick.
That will give the Browns an offensive foundation to build around, giving the quarterback some real weapons to build around. They have to bring in a quarterback to maximize that. Flynn is that guy.
If the Browns were in pursuit of Flynn and he said no, it would be one thing. Obviously, you can't bring in a player that doesn't want to be there. But for the Browns to say that they are not interested is a curious stance to take.
There is no reason for them not to pursue Flynn. Cleveland has to go after the franchise quarterback that it has lacked since coming back to the NFL in 1999. That is too long of a drought, which would end with the signing of Flynn.
