Knicks Rumors: The Latest Buzz Surrounding Big Apple
Can Mike D'Antoni last the season? Can he last the week?
The Chicago Bulls handed the Knicks their sixth straight loss Monday, only fueling the fire for head coach Mike D'Antoni to be canned. The coach was riding the high of Linsanity, looking like a genius for injecting the second-year guard into the starting lineup and getting them back in the playoff race. However, since the return of Carmelo Anthony the team has gone 2-8 and is currently outside-looking-in on the Eastern Conference playoff picture.
D'Antoni had a creative flow to his offense with the emergence of Jeremy Lin that led the team to an 8-1 stretch, but since Anthony's return the coach has allowed the All-Star forward to slow down and dictate the offense to the detriment of the team.
Now fans are calling for his job, and if the Knicks go winless during this road trip they may get their wish. Former Atlanta Hawks head coach Mike Woodson is waiting in the wings.
Carmelo Anthony doesn't like his coach?
Can Mike D'Antoni have a worse couple of weeks? Is Carmelo Anthony throwing him under the bus to take the pressure off his own self?
Reports from the New York Post's Marc Berman say Anthony is unhappy with Mike D'Antoni and he does not believe the two can co-exist going forward. Anthony along with fellow All-Star Amare Stoudemire were benched the other night during the fourth quarter in a blow-out loss in Philadelphia. Anthony was visibly upset at the benching.
Jeremy Lin's run might be coming to an end?
The recent struggles might cause Mike D'Antoni to go into desperation mode. Even though he gave his point guard Jeremy Lin a vote of confidence the other night after his abysmal showing against the 76ers, it might be time to bench Linsanity.
It clearly is not working with him and Carmelo Anthony in the lineup. He is getting torched by quality point guards and shut down by good defensive teams. He is shooting under 40 percent of late with a high amount of turnovers.
As Baron Davis gets into better playing shape, you could see Lin move to the bench to separate him from Carmelo Anthony and take some pressure off.
