Ryan RudnanskyMar 11, 2012

Curry may be one of the most dynamic young guards in the game, but he's beginning to build a reputation of being an injury-prone player.

I've got a shocker for y'all.

Get this—Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors has a mild right ankle sprain.

OK, I lied. That's not a shocker at all.

Update: Wednesday, March 28 at 12:55 p.m. EDT by Alex Kay

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports just reported that Stephen Curry will miss two more weeks to continue rehabilitation on his problematic right ankle.

According to Woj, this news comes on the heels of his visit to a Los Angeles-based specialist.

He will meet up with the doctor again in two weeks to re-examine the oft-injured ankle and determine if he should continue trying to play this season or shut it down for good.

Keep it tuned here for the latest news, updates, opinions and analysis on Steph Curry and his nagging ankle injury.

UPDATE: Monday, March 26 at 6:23 p.m. ET

At this point, all signs are pointing towards Curry being shut down, especially after his comments reported by San Francisco Chronicle's Rusty Simmons

"

"Warriors point guard Stephen Curry spoke publicly for the first time since re-aggravating his balky right ankle in a 97-93 victory over the Clippers on March 11, saying after Monday’s practice, 'I’ve run my ankle into the ground by trying to play on it while it’s injured. It’s time to keep the grand scheme of my career in the forefront and worry about that...'”

"Did he give you any hope for playing this season?: 'He didn’t say surgery now, so that was big. I had that same situation last year, when I went to Dr. Mark Myerson in Baltimore for some ideas about rehab exercises. He dropped the bomb that my ligaments were done and surgery was necessary. He told me that right on the spot, so it was good to not hear that this time around. Hopefully, whatever (Ferkel) does have to say, it won’t start with ‘S.’”

"

The Warriors need to play it safe with their star guard's future. It would be a major set-back if Curry needed surgery, so the best thing to do is to shut him down for the remainder of the season.

Update: Tuesday, March 20 at 10:55 p.m. ET

The Bay Area News Group's Marcus Thompson reports that Curry will be staying behind while the Warriors embark on their current road trip.

"

Warriors PG Steph Curry did not make road trip to New Orleans, Houston thanks to his sprained right ankle

Update: Thursday, March 15 at 11:30 PM EST

CSN Bay Area's Matt Steinmetz says Curry is out for Friday vs. the Bucks.

"

Stephen Curry definitely won't play Friday vs. Bucks or Saturday vs. Jazz, according to GSW GM Larry Riley earlier this week.

— Matt Steinmetz (@MSteinmetzCSN) March 16, 2012"

Update: Sunday, March 11 at 9:35 p.m. ET

The San Francisco Chronicle's Rusty Simmons tweets that Curry will indeed play Sunday night vs. the Clippers.

"

Steph Curry (right foot/ankle) convinced Warriors coach Mark Jackson that he is healthy enough to start tonight against the Clippers.

— Rusty Simmons (@Rusty_SFChron) March 12, 2012"

Curry suffered the injury midway through the third quarter on Saturday against the Dallas Mavericks.

The good news is, Matt Steinmetz of CSN Bay Area tweeted on Saturday:

"

Warriors coach Mark Jackson said Curry could have returned tonight, expecting to have him back tomorrow vs. LAC.

— Matt Steinmetz (@MSteinmetzCSN) March 11, 2012"

According to Rotoworld.com, Curry was visibly frustrated when head coach Mark Jackson sat him for the remainder of the game on Saturday. But it's better to be safe than sorry, especially when Curry has already sprained his ankle multiple times this season.

Or, as InsideHoops.com put it:

"

#Warriors guard Stephen Curry has hurt his ankle for the 98,329,832nd time.

— InsideHoops.com (@InsideHoops) March 11, 2012"

If you're a Warriors and Oakland Raiders fan, it's even tougher to take:

"

Stephen Curry is the McFadden of the Warriors. It's so hard being a Raider/Warriors fan.

— Jay Mackie (@JayMackieSports) March 11, 2012"

There are some who believe the Warriors should shut Curry down for the season to avoid his ankle potentially getting worse, especially when the Warriors likely won't make the playoffs this season.

Easier said than done, though. The organization has shown no inclination to shut Curry down, and it's obvious Curry wants to continue playing. If he was upset about getting held out of a little more than one quarter of basketball, imagine how he would feel if he was kept out for the entire season.

Curry is averaging 15.3 points, 5.5 assists and 3.4 rebounds this season.
