Kyle Orton to Seahawks: Why Ex-Chiefs QB Would Be Good in Seattle

Jesse ReedMar 9, 2012

Kyle Orton wound be a good fit for Pete Carrol and the Seattle Seahawks.

Orton is a proven veteran that has shown he's capable of leading a productive NFL offense, as his time with the Denver Broncos showed (2009 and 2010).

Orton may not be Peyton Manning, or even Matt Flynn for that matter, but he is an instant upgrade over Tarvaris Jackson. His ability to spread the ball around on offense will make the Seahawks' passing game something for teams to think about.

If defenses have to commit attention to the passing game, you can expect Marshawn Lynch and the Seahawks' punishing offensive line to take full advantage.

What Orton ultimately brings to the Seahawks is more balance.

Even with Jackson in as the quarterback last year, one thing became obvious: The 'Hawks are quietly developing one of the best young wide receiving groups in the league.

Undrafted rookie Doug Baldwin came out of nowhere to haul in 51 passes for 788 yards and four touchdowns. Golden Tate and Ben Obomanu also showed promise of more to come with productive seasons, and between the two of them, they caught 72 passes and five touchdowns.

Once Sydney Rice and Zack Miller get back into the flow of things, they will be—dare I say it—downright scary.

The weapons are there for the Seahawks to have a dynamic passing attack to go along with Beast Mode and their power running game.

We all know they have a stellar defense with an incredible ceiling. Imagine how good the Seahawks can be with an offense that stays on the field and scores more often.

The best part about Orton is that he won't break the bank. I'm guessing the Seahawks can bring him over on a two- or three-year deal worth no more than $4.5 million per year with little up front.

Sign Kirk Cousins in the third round and you're good to go for the next decade.

This is a deal the Seahawks need to pursue.
