Jeremy Lin: 4 NBA Guards New York Knicks Star Is Already Better Than
I am not one of those people who have completely overreacted to Jeremy Lin's emergence in New York, but there a few prominent names he's already surpassed on the point guard food chain
That said, Lin is a quality player, but he benefits greatly from Mike D'Antoni's "seven seconds or less" system. He isn't so much of a system player that he wouldn't be effective in any other system, but without this perfect match, there would be no Linsanity.
Because of this, you will not see the likes of Derrick Rose, Chris Paul or Deron Williams on this list, as these players have games that translate to any system and any team.
Lin has some holes in his game that experience may not fix. He does not have great foot-speed, and while his dribble moves can hide that on offense, he gets exposed by quick guards on the defensive end.
This will never change, but to add some comfort to Lin's fans, the same was the case for Steve Nash, and he's headed to the Hall of Fame. After a while, Nash just quit trying on the other end altogether.
I don't propose Lin should adopt that philosophy, but he can and will have a solid career without being a defensive stalwart.
Lin is not yet a great shooter, but this can certainly be addressed. He shoots only 31 percent from distance. Take a look at what Jason Kidd used to be like as a shooter, and consider the fact that he not only is a solid spot-up shooter now, he is third all-time in three-point field goals made.
Lin can add this to his game, and when he does, he will take the next step in his development.
Finally, the turnovers must be addressed. Much of it is experience and the demand of the system. This could be remedied with repetition and years in the league, but it certainly keeps him beneath some of the games' best at this point.
Take a look at the list, and as always, feel free to berate or congratulate.
Peace
