NBA Trade Rumors: Michael Beasley Not a Good Fit for Boston Celtics
Ever since the Minnesota Timberwolves drafted Derrick Williams, Michael Beasley has been expendable.
So it's no wonder several teams are reportedly interested in the 23-year-old forward.
Sam Amico of FoxSports.com reported on Wednesday:
"Wolves have already spoken with New Jersey, Houston and the L.A. Lakers about Beasley. While both teams are said to still be open to a deal, it appears Beasley's most likely landing spot, for the time being, is Boston.
"
But Beasley is not a good fit with the Celtics.
Beasley is one of the most overrated players in the NBA, and that's not even mentioning his character concerns. Yes, he can score, but what else does he do well? He's a very poor defender, and he doesn't rebound well for his size. Why would a traditional coach like Doc Rivers want him on his team?
Beasley will assuredly be a defensive liability on the Celtics. He doesn't play good one-on-one defense, and he's not a shot blocker. On top of that, he doesn't play hard on defense a lot of the time, which in part can be attributed to his attitude on the court. I've seen him argue a call off an offensive play too many times, only to leave his team shorthanded on the other end.
Beasley is a sexy player. He scores a lot. But there's more to basketball than scoring, and I'm actually surprised the Celtics are even entertaining this. Rivers seems like the last coach who would want Beasley.
The only way acquiring Beasley would be a good move for the Celtics is if they traded Jermaine O'Neal in the deal. That way, they get rid of an expiring contract and can let Beasley go in free agency after the season. Then, they would be able to pursue some young impact players in the summer.
Follow me on Twitter. We can talk about the Celtics and/or Michael Beasley.
