WWE WrestleMania 28: All Cylinders Are Firing on the Road to WrestleMania

Michael PrunkaJun 7, 2018

The WWE generally kicks it into full gear around this time of year. The six weeks between the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view and WrestleMania are usually some of the most exciting weeks of the year. It's a time when opponents clash and tension builds towards the "Showcase of the Immortals."

In my opinion, this year has been a bit different. The Royal Rumble PPV did not provide the exciting start to WrestleMania season it usually does, and the Elimination Chamber PPV also failed to live up to much of its potential. It really felt like the WWE was coasting along the Road to WrestleMania.

For the most part, the last two weeks of WWE television have begun to make up for the lackluster beginning to WrestleMania season. The headline feud, John Cena vs. The Rock, has been heating up. Cena delivered an intense promo last week and had a quick and strong rebuttal for The Rock's promo this week.

The WWE Championship match has taken form. Chris Jericho won a battle royal last week to earn a shot at CM Punk and the WWE Championship on the "Grandest Stage of Them All." Many fans, including myself, found the battle royal a disappointing way to set up this match. However, Jericho and Punk's verbal battle from this past Monday more than made up for it.

Sheamus declared his contendership for the World Heavyweight Championship by laying out Daniel Bryan at Elimination Chamber. Sheamus' promo on Daniel Bryan from the most recent edition of Smackdown has helped initiate meaningful build towards their WrestleMania bout. Personally, I loved how Sheamus referenced his own run as a heel World Champion when addressing Bryan.

With such a crowded main event scene, I had been worried that the WWE would not give the undercard necessary attention. The story unfolding between Cody Rhodes and Big Show, in addition to the continuing battle between John Laurinaitis and Teddy Long and the developing feud between Randy Orton and Kane, makes it much easier to be optimistic that the undercard will be just as strong as the main event.

With four more weeks to build towards WrestleMania 28, the WWE has already done a lot to excite fans for the show. If they can keep up the pace, this year's show could go down as one of the best in history.

The WWE is firing on all cylinders. By continuing to hype the matches already announced for the show and building towards a few more matches added to the card, the WWE could truly go into overdrive as they speed along the Road to WrestleMania 28.
