Buffalo Bills: 5 Impact Receivers Buffalo Should Target in Free Agency
As the Buffalo Bills approach free agency, their weaknesses must be addressed. With or without Stevie Johnson on the roster, Buffalo needs to give quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick sufficient tools to work with.
It's clear, the NFL is a passing game. With a decent quarterback in Fitzpatrick, Buffalo needs to add at least one proven receiver to improve the Bills' aerial threat.
This list show five wide receivers that can help make Buffalo relevant in 2012. Without sufficient receivers, the success of the Bills in the passing game will be minimal.
Here are five veteran receivers that could help Buffalo in 2012.
Vincent Jackson
1 of 5While Jackson may be hit with the franchise tag in San Diego, it is clear that he wants out. If Buffalo is willing to pay big bucks for his talents, he could be the No. 1 receiver Buffalo has been lacking.
He is a Pro Bowl receiver who can make plays down the field. He would make Buffalo harder to defend and would surely make defenses respect the passing game, essentially opening up the run. If Buffalo were to sign Jackson, he would be expensive but worth the price.
Pierre Garcon
2 of 5Don't be alarmed that he rejected a huge contract offer from Indianapolis. He doesn't know who the Colts will start at quarterback and he doesn't want to be a part of a massive rebuilding stage. If Buffalo can sign Garcon, he would be a huge addition to the passing game.
Although he drops a few simple passes, he has the knack to make some spectacular plays. He can make receptions downfield and is dangerous after the catch. He has had great games against the AFC East foes and would be a good fit in Buffalo. The Bills must convince him that Buffalo is his best destination and they must be willing to give him a decent sum of money.
Eddie Royal
3 of 5If Royal wants to succeed as a receiver in the NFL, Denver is probably not the place for him. He would simply be a glorified Roscoe Parrish in Buffalo.
He is speedy, flashy and can make plays after the catch. He could also be used in the slot or on wide receiver screens. He has been one of the best on kickoff and punt return duties and also became the fourth fastest receiver ever to record 100 receptions. He is an overall fast player that can make plays in a variety of ways. If Buffalo doesn't want to spend a lot of money this offseason, he is relatively cheap and could be a good investment if utilized the right way.
Robert Meachem
4 of 5He was stuck in a New Orleans offense that loved to share the ball. In Buffalo, he could be a quality starting receiver. He has caught 23 touchdowns over the past four seasons and could be a big-time red-zone threat. Outside of the red zone, the 6'2" receiver managed to connect on a few long balls for touchdowns.
If Stevie Johnson is retained, Meachem could be more of a big-time player while Johnson could be more of a possession receiver. Without Stevie, Meachem would still have a role in the red zone and should be expected to score touchdowns. He is relatively cheap and could help a Buffalo team through the air.
Braylon Edwards
5 of 5Braylon Edwards would be a very cheap addition for the Bills seeing as how he hardly played last year. If the 6'3" receiver can even come close to replicating his 2007 season in Cleveland, Bills fans should be satisfied.
Edwards can make plays downfield and could possibly give Buffalo an advantage against the Jets. If the move move doesn't work out, the Bills won't suffer much given his reasonable price tag.
