2012 NFL Mock Draft: Top Destinations for CBs After NFL Scouting Combine
The defensive backs help finish up the 2012 NFL Scouting Combine on Tuesday, so let's quickly run down some fits for each of the top cornerbacks from the 2012 NFL draft.
Morris Claiborne, LSU (4.50-second 40-yard dash)
The numbers weren't mind-blowing like some predicted, but Claiborne looked like the most NFL-ready cornerback in the positional drills. There's no reason to think he'll fall out of the Top 10.
Fits: Vikings, Browns, Rams, Buccaneers, Redskins
Dre Kirkpatrick, Alabama (4.51)
Kirkpatrick tested out right around where most thought he would coming into Indianapolis. Overall, there was nothing about his performance at the combine that should drop him from the first-round ranks.
Fits: Panthers, Cowboys, Bengals, Titans, Lions
Janoris Jenkins, North Alabama (4.46)
For all the offseason problems (three arrests for marijuana possession, four kids by three different women, dismissed from Florida), Jenkins put together an impressive workout. He's a first-round talent with highly questionable character.
Fits: Bengals, Bears, Lions, 49ers
Stephon Gilmore, South Carolina (4.41)
His speed and jumping abilities were on full display during the cornerback workouts. In the end, I think NFL scouts will look back on his performance in the drills as the moment where Gilmore cemented his late-first round status.
Fits: Cowboys, Lions, Bengals, Packers, Patriots
Jayron Hosley, Virginia Tech (4.47)
Hosley might be the underrated star of this 2012 cornerback class. He blew away the 40-yard dash and then looked smooth and crisp during the positional drills. Could Hosley now be a Top 50 pick?
Fits: Packers, 49ers, Patriots, Colts, Vikings
Jamell Fleming, Oklahoma (4.53)
Fleming is a name you'll get familiar with as the NFL draft nears. He possesses all the skills you want in a starting-quality NFL cornerback and could end up being a Top 40 selection.
Fits: Patriots, Rams, Buccaneers, Cowboys, Bengals
Alfonzo Dennard, Nebraska (4.55)
There was nothing flashy about Dennard's game at Nebraska, and that translated to his workouts in Indianapolis. He didn't blow away the 40-yard dash but looked quick-footed during the positional drills. He's a likely second-rounder.
Fits: Panthers, Cowboys, Redskins, Bears, Packers
