WWE News: Veterans Upset with New "Kayfabe" T-Shirts, Expected to Be Pulled Soon

Drake OzJun 7, 2018

The advancement of the Internet has undoubtedly taken away some of the surprise element of professional wrestling, and if you ask many wrestlers, they’ll say that it’s completely ruined it.

While I wouldn’t go that far, the drastic increase in the number of spoilers and news sites has certainly had a major effect on the WWE, especially on the booking of its storylines.

Some wrestlers aren’t afraid to say that they hate how people who are not a part of the business alter it by doing simply things like using insider terms, such as “heel” and “going over.”

Perhaps that’s why the WWE’s latest line of “kayfabe” t-shirts isn’t sitting so well with some of the company’s stars.

A lot of talk around WWE is that these shirts may be pulled soon and no longer be sold according to F4Wonline.com. Many within the company, especially veterans, are unhappy about those industry terms being used for commercial purposes.

It is also said that many are also surprised that the shirts were approved by all of the people in WWE they had to be approved by and never got nixed.

It's expected according to the report that the shirts will soon no longer be available.

"

While I understand why some WWE superstars (especially the more “old school” ones) aren’t too thrilled about these “kayfabe” t-shirts, this is just another example of wrestling changing with the times.

The Internet really does make it ridiculously easy for a fan to develop somewhat of an understanding of a certain industry term, even if they don’t truly know what it means. But that’s just how it is nowadays.

Wrestling is not the same as it was in the 1980s and '90s, before anything and everything about the business could be found online.

Kayfabe is broken all the time, with wrestlers who feud on TV having dinner with each other in public afterward, or something along those lines. Heck, breaking kayfabe has become a common thing recently in the WWE, with CM Punk calling himself “Phil Brooks” being a good example of that.

Wrestling was better before the days of spoilers sites and when a big chunk of fans had no idea that it was scripted, but those days are gone. And they’re never coming back.

The average fan who reads about wrestling on the Internet has a general sense of what a heel is, what it means when someone is "over" and that "heat" has a couple of different meanings.

At least for me, that doesn’t change the fact that I love wrestling and would still watch it even if I thought I knew everything about it.
