2012 NFL Mock Draft: Taking a Look at How WRs Are Trending After Combine

Zach KruseJun 7, 2018

Sunday of the NFL Scouting Combine was a showcase for receivers, as their group completed the 40-yard dash, position drills and the rest of the combine workouts. Let's take a look at how that position is trending in our 2012 NFL mock draft.

Trending Up

Justin Blackmon, Oklahoma State: He didn't run the 40-yard dash but looked smooth in the receiving drills. A good 40 time at his pro day will cement Blackmon's top-10 draft stock.

Michael Floyd, Notre Dame: Weighed in at a slim 220 pounds and then stopped his 40 clock at under 4.5 seconds. Any athletic concerns about him were erased in Indy. Floyd should be a top-20 pick.

Stephen Hill, Georgia Tech: The star of Sunday blazed the 40-yard dash at 4.36 seconds and was a more polished receiver in the drills than anyone ever gave him credit for. Hill might be an early second-rounder now.

Chris Givens, Wake Forest: Givens ran a 4.41-second 40-yard dash, which was the seventh-best time among receivers. He was arguably the most comfortable looking receiver during the pass drills, too. It would be a surprise if he fell too far into the third round.

Steady

Alshon Jeffery, South Carolina: Worries about weight were eased when Jeffery weighed in at 216 pounds. However, he didn't workout and was unimpressive during his interviews, according to SI's Tony Pauline. Jeffery's pro day will be huge.

Mohamed Sanu, Rutgers: Sanu has never been a speed guy, and his 40 times were reflective of that. But how much will a 4.65-second time hurt his stock? NFL people will be worried about his ability to separate on his own.

Falling

Kendall Wright, Baylor: Wright's "official" time was clocked at 4.61 seconds in the 40-yard dash. Whether you trust that or not is another story. But for a guy that isn't a physical threat (Wright is 5'10", 180 pounds), he needs speed. That number might stick with him, fairly or unfairly.

Rueben Randle, LSU: Some have had Randle sneaking into the first round, but his 40 times in the 4.5-second range won't excite NFL decision-makers. There's enough on film to think he can separate, but you just never know how poor 40 times will affect draft stock.
