2012 NFL Free Agents: 3 Players That Will Make an Instant Impact
If you are hoping that Drew Brees will leave New Orleans in favor of your favorite team, just stop.
Brees isn't going anywhere.
But that doesn't mean there aren't other quality free agents ripe for the picking that can turn your team into a Super Bowl contender.
Here are the three free agents that I believe will make an instant impact on their new teams.
DE/LB Mario Williams
1 of 3While Mario Williams is sure to be a bit on the expensive side once free agency gets under way March 8th, he is the best defensive player available.
The 6'6'' 283 pound former number one overall pick will be just 27 years of age next fall, and will be right in the midst of the prime of his career.
In just over five professional season, Williams has 53 sacks, and has shown the ability to play either defensive end or linebacker.
If your team has deep enough pockets, this kid may just be the type of defensive player your team needs to get over the hump next season.
QB Matt Flynn
2 of 3Word of advice:
Anytime a backup Green Bay Packers quarterback becomes available take him.
While he has only seen limited playing time during his four years in the NFL, Flynn has all the ingredients to be a successful starting quarterback.
He looked great in limited action last year, throwing for 480 yards and six touchdowns in week 17 against the Detroit Lions.
He may not have a proven track record of success just yet, but given an opportunity to play every week may just be what a team needs to get back in the championship hunt.
WR Dwayne Bowe
3 of 3Every team needs a good wideout.
The problem is, however, which good 2012 free agent wide receivers will be available?
I don't see Mike Wallace leaving Pittsburgh.
I don't see Wes Welker leaving New England.
I don't see Vincent Jackson leaving San Diego.
So who is left?
How about Kansas City wide receiver Dwayne Bowe?
While Bowe saw his touchdowns fall from 15 to five last season, he did catch 81 balls for 1,159 yards. What I like about Bowe is his ability to stretch the field. In 2011, he managed to catch a pass of 20 or more yards in 12 of the Chiefs 16 games.
Deep threat wide receivers are a nice option to have, and whichever team ends up with Dwayne Bowe is going to be thankful come playoff time.
