LeBron James: Ingrate of the Eastern Conference

Sean StancillFeb 22, 2008

Thursday afternoon, moments before the trade deadline, the Cleveland Cavaliers pulled off a colossal 11-player trade that brought Ben Wallace, Joe Smith, Wally Szcerbiak, and Delonte West to Cleveland.

LeBron James must be pleased, right?

Wrong. When asked his opinion on the deal he simply said, "This is not what I wanted—you know what I wanted—but it's an improvement."

What a slap in the face! How disrespectful is that to Danny Ferry and the Cavalier organization, who worked hard to at least bring some help into Ohio?

So what if you didn’t get your way? Stop pouting and be happy with what you received.

James will now be playing alongside a four-time Defensive Player of the Year in Ben Wallace, a decent point guard in Delonte West, a good outside shooter in Szczerbiak, and a great mid-range shooter in Joe Smith.

LeBron needs to accept the trade and understand it was for the good of the team. He should be extremely excited with the talent that's coming in—which is far better than what they traded away—and look to develop chemistry with his newly-acquired teammates.

So why is he pouting? I’ll give you two reasons: Number one, because Cleveland didn't land 35-year-old Jason Kidd.

Number two, ever since the embarrassment that LeBron and the Cavs suffered in the Finals last year, he has been acting like a spoiled brat and has been carrying a chip on his shoulder. He has shown disrespect not only towards GM Danny Ferry, but also to Coach Mike Brown.

James has gotten into many public arguments with Brown this season—and on one occasion he even made physical contact with his coach, bumping him as he walked back towards the bench.

I know I can't be the only one tired of this tirade James has put on, and disgusted by his lack of respect for seniority. If you're not going to show consideration for your coaching staff, at least show some for the game. And, newsflash: LeBron isn't even the best player in the league, Kobe Bryant is.

There are 30 teams in the National Basketball Association, and only a third of them made a trade. There are dozens of teams that could use the services of Ben Wallace.

Heck, if you don’t want him, LeBron, send him over to Denver. We could use him any day.
