Knicks Rumors: Jeremy Lin Will Keep Carmelo and Amar'e off the Trade Market

Josh MartinJun 2, 2018

A note to any New York Knicks fans worried about how Amar'e Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony will coexist with Jeremy Lin:

Don't be.

If anything, the Big Apple's two superstars should (and likely will) be ecstatic to get in on the Linsanity, if for no other reason than to ensure they don't get shipped out of town any time soon.

Surely interim GM Glen Grunwald has no interest in finding takers for 'Melo and Amar'e after working so tirelessly to get them both to New York, though with James Dolan calling the shots from the owner's box, you can never be too sure.

In the meantime, New York's not-so-dynamic duo would do well to wholeheartedly embrace Lin, the reigning Eastern Conference Player of the Week, if not for the sake of the team then for their own futures. Head coach Mike D'Antoni has shown no indication of pulling Lin from the starting lineup so long as the kid continues to play well, even if/when Baron Davis finally recovers from his debilitating back injury.

And why would he? Lin's averaging nearly 27 points and eight assists over his last five games for a team whose collection of point guards (i.e. Toney Douglas, Iman Shumpert, Mike Bibby's zombified corpse) ranked among the worst in the NBA—and for a team whose coach runs a system predicated on point guard play, no less.

As for 'Melo and Amar'e, they stand to benefit handsomely from blending their particular talents with Lin's. Both stars, while capable of operating in isolation, are best served when playing alongside a point guard who can run the pick-and-roll (for Stoudemire) and the pick-and-pop (for Anthony). If there's anything Lin has proven in the last 10 days, it's that he thrives in the screen game thanks to his intelligence, vision and fearlessness in taking what the defense gives him.

If you thought Lin was good with Tyson Chandler and Jared Jeffries as his finishers, just wait until you see what he's capable of with Amar'e cutting to the basket for thunderous dunks and 'Melo slashing off the wing.

Certainly those two could use the pick-me-up in their respective games, as both have endured relatively terrible seasons thus far on account of injuries, the strain of a condensed schedule, the pressure to perform on the biggest stage in basketball and, most importantly, the team's previously pathetic situation at the point.

Now that the Knicks finally have someone up top who can handle and distribute the ball proficiently, expect 'Melo and Amar'e's numbers to shoot up and expect the Knicks to add more notches to the win column.

And, as a result, expect any lingering talk about New York sending either of its superstars packing to quiet down considerably.
