NFL Trade Speculation: 1 Player Each Team Is Most Likely to Deal
NFL fans are now in the doldrums of the offseason as immutable trade-talk has invaded our thoughts. With some rare downtime in the NFL schedule between the Super Bowl and the NFL Scouting Combine, fans are left to fantasize about future fantasy drafts, the actual NFL Draft and potential trades.
While it's been true in the past that the NFL isn't well-known for blockbuster trades, anything is possible in today's league.
Fans have come to expect the unexpected, and this year will be no different as teams are becoming bolder.
Deals will be made by every team, and these players will be on the move.
Arizona Cardinals: John Skelton Surprised All in 2011
1 of 32Because of John Skelton, the Arizona Cardinals salvaged an 8-8 season in 2011.
Skelton took over for injured Kevin Kolb and finished with a 5-2 record.
With the Cardinals having vested interest in Kolb, it would be wise to trade Skelton while he still has value. Skelton has two years left on his contract, and the Cardinals have plenty of holes to fill.
The 23-year-old quarterback will attract plenty of tempting offers for the Cardinals by draft day.
Atlanta Falcons: Peria Jerry Needs a Change of Scenery
2 of 32Peria Jerry was a first-round pick of the Atlanta Falcons in 2009, but he hasn't produced much in the NFL.
The defensive lineman only has 20 tackles and two sacks in 34 career games.
With only two years left on his contract, Jerry will become appealing to a young team that needs a player with a chip on his shoulder.
Look for Jerry to be in a draft-day deal.
Baltimore Ravens: Lee Evans Dropped the Ball, and It's Time to Go
3 of 32Having the Super Bowl slip through his fingers, it would be best if wide receiver Lee Evans finds a new home.
Many fans have to be disappointed with Evans' season in Baltimore. On top of the obvious, he only had four catches for 74 yards on the season.
At 30 years old, Evans still has value in the NFL.
The Ravens wants to sever ties with Evans before camp begins in 2012.
Buffalo Bills: Jairus Byrd Would Yield a Big Return
4 of 32The Buffalo Bills may want to trade safety Jairus Byrd before he flies the coop next season. With 2012 being the last season in his four-year contract, Byrd won't want to stay in Buffalo.
After a stellar rookie season with nine interceptions, Byrd only has four in two years since.
Teams are always in need of good help in the secondary, and he did total 98 tackles in 2011.
The Bills defense allowed 30-plus points seven times in 2011; a few draft picks for Byrd may be their best bet to build for the future.
Carolina Panthers: Jonathon Stewart Has Great Value
5 of 32The Carolina Panthers struck gold with Cam Newton, but thanks to a pitiful defense, they only won six games.
Out of 10 losses, eight were in games where the defense allowed 30-plus points.
With the team in desperate need of defense and with running back DeAngelo Williams on the books for another four years, backup running back Jonathan Stewart is prime trade-bait.
Stewart only has one year remaining on his contract and would appeal to every team in the NFL in need of a sturdy back.
The Panthers will get plenty of phone calls for Stewart in the next couple months.
Chicago Bears: Time for a Divorce Between the Bears and Lance Briggs
6 of 32It's no secret that the Chicago Bears and linebacker Lance Briggs have their differences.
The 31-year-old still produces at a high level and would fetch a few draft picks for the Bears, who need a little bit of everything on both sides of the ball.
Most importantly, the Bears need to get younger.
Playing in the "Black and Blue" division, the Bears need to keep up with the likes of the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Lions.
Don't expect No. 55 to be in the Bears huddle next season.
Cincinnati Bengals: Bernard Scott for a Draft Pick Would Be Nice
7 of 32Running back Bernard Scott has one year remaining on his contract, and the Cincinnati Bengals are looking to draft some fresh legs for the backfield.
While it's apparent that teams can't have enough running backs these days, Scott would become dispensable with a rookie running back in the Queen City.
The Bengals also have plenty of cash to spend this offseason and can easily attract a cheap veteran.
A mid-round draft pick for Scott would be a win-win for all.
Cleveland Browns: Usama Young Would Bring a 1st-Round Pick
8 of 32Thanks in part to safety Usama Young, the Cleveland Browns had one of the best pass defenses in the entire NFL last season. One wouldn't think that a 4-12 team would only allow 184.9 yards/game in the "Year of the Quarterback."
Young amassed 70 tackles and really made his name known in 2011.
Some may think that it would be a mistake to deal Young, but the Browns need offense.
They already have two first-round picks, why not make it three.
Dallas Cowboys: The 'Boys Should Say 'Adios' to Felix Jones
9 of 32The Dallas Cowboys have waited on Felix Jones becoming a legit No. 1 for years.
It's now evident that it's just not going to happen. Given, Jones missed four games due to injury in 2012, but he only had 575 yards rushing in 12 games.
With a single year left on his contract and the emergence of DeMarco Murray, Jones may see the door in Dallas.
Something has got to change for the Cowboys, and it'll start by trading Jones.
Denver Broncos: Robert Ayers for Some Offense Would Be a Bonus
10 of 32The Denver Broncos need to ensure quarterback Tim Tebow that he'll have viable weapons to connect with in the near future.
With a solid defense in place, defensive end Robert Ayers is tradeable. He has two years left on his current deal and is entering the prime of his career. Ayers has 97 tackles and 4.5 sacks in three NFL seasons.
He would be a nice fit for a team that is in need of a solid defensive end. Right now, he's expendable in Denver.
Detroit Lions: Willie Young Would Fetch a Solid Draft Pick
11 of 32The Detroit Lions have the deepest defensive line in the NFL, and defensive end Willie Young will be the odd-man out this offseason.
The Lions need to draft offensive lineman for the future, and Young would be a good deal for a third-round selection.
Young deserves to see more playing time and would be a steal for a team that needs his services.
Green Bay Packers: It's Time to Send Chad Clifton Packing
12 of 32Chad Clifton is now 35 years old, and it would be in the best interest of the Green Bay Packers to trade the left tackle.
Clifton has one season left on his current contract, and the Packers could get a couple of draft picks for him.
The 12-year veteran still has some gas in the tank and would be best on an up-and-coming team in need of an offensive lineman.
The Packers would have to pay about 60 percent of his $5.25 million that's due, but it's necessary to trade Clifton.
Houston Texans: Trading Ben Tate Would Bring Plenty of Picks the Texans' Way
13 of 32Some may think that trading Ben Tate would be foolish—others may realize that it would be genius.
Tate had a breakout season in 2011 with 942 yards on just 175 carries. His stock is at an all-time high right now, and he proved himself to be a No.1 running back.
Trading Tate would bring a couple first-round selections the Texans' way. This would mean that the Texans could draft another running back and a wide receiver to help Andre Johnson.
To become a perennial playoff team, the Texans need to trade Tate now.
Indianapolis Colts: This Franchise Needs to Hit the Reset Button
14 of 32The Indianapolis Colts are in shambles right now.
With the team likely to end their relationship with Peyton Manning soon, and with the No. 1 draft pick coming their way, it's time to start over in Circle City.
Needing as many draft picks as possible, trading Donald Brown would be best for the Colts.
Brown averaged 4.8 yards per carry in 2011 and would attract plenty of attention.
Jacksonville Jaguars: Sometimes Bad Teams Have to Part with Their Best
15 of 32Daryl Smith tallied 107 tackles for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2011.
Despite a 5-11 record, the Jags possessed a top-ten defense.
Smith shined on the field, and a trade would bring the Jaguars a handsome reward in return. After all, he only has one year left on his deal before it's off to greener pastures.
The team needs an entire wide-receiving corps, and the No. 7 pick in the 2012 NFL Draft won't fulfill all of their needs.
Kansas City Chiefs: The Chiefs Can Replace Javier Arenas with a Free Agent
16 of 32Javier Arenas may be young and versatile, but that doesn't mean he can't be traded.
His current team, the Kansas City Chiefs, are sitting on more money than the Federal Reserve and would set themselves up very nicely in the draft if they were to trade Arenas.
An experienced free agent would suffice in Arenas' replacement.
Miami Dolphins: For Whom the Yeremiah Bell Tolls
17 of 32Yeremiah Bell has had 100-plus tackles for the Miami Dolphins in four consecutive seasons.
With only one season left on his deal and Bell being 33 years old, the Dolphins would be smart to deal their safety away.
With an overhaul at the helm of the Dolphins, Bell is easily tradeable and would yield a high return.
Don't be shocked when he is dealt on draft day.
Minnesota Vikings: Joe Webb Is Wanted by Many
18 of 32The Minnesota Vikings stunk in 2011 and need all the help they can get heading into the future.
One piece that the Vikings can trade away without too much guilt is quarterback Joe Webb.
Having drafted Christian Ponder last season, Webb won't be the starter in Minnesota.
The highly athletic Webb will have the Vikings phone lines ringing off the hook come draft day.
New England Patriots: Trade Chad Johnson-Ocho-Johnson Sooner Than Later
19 of 32Chad Johnson was relatively quiet in New England in 2011. 15 catches for 276 yards is nothing to brag about, and Johnson surprisingly didn't say much.
Fans should expect Johnson to be traded away to a team that's in desperate need of a veteran wide receiver.
Whatever the Patriots get out of a deal for Johnson, they'll take it.
New Orleans Saints: Devery Henderson Has Played His Last Game in NOLA
20 of 32Devery Henderson is a good NFL wide receiver. His only problem is that he plays for New Orleans, where quarterback Drew Brees has a stable of receivers.
With only a single season left on his contract, Henderson will be traded for some secondary help for the Saints.
The fans of the team that lands Henderson should be excited for him to take flight in their town.
New York Giants: Osi Umenyiora Will Wear New Colors in 2012
21 of 32The New York Giants would be slick to deal Osi Umenyiora this offseason.
The defensive end has one year remaining on his contract and is now 30 years old.
While Umenyiora has plenty of games left in his NFL career, the Giants need to realize that the time to deal him is now.
Dealing him before the draft would bring a couple of valuable draft picks to the Giants.
Umenyiora has had double-digit sacks every other year since 2005. In 2011 he had nine, which means he's due for another 10-plus sack season.
New York Jets: Swapping Head Coaches Would Be Best for the Jets
22 of 32The New York Jets have done more than disappoint in recent years.
The team is not going to get rid of Mark Sanchez or Santonio Holmes anytime soon, so the only option is to give head coach Rex Ryan the boot.
The charismatic Ryan may just talk himself out of a job.
Jets fans, do you really think anything will change next season with the current climate of the organization?
Oakland Raiders: Darrius Heyward-Bey Isn't Safe Now That Al Davis Is Gone
23 of 32Darrius Heyward-Bey may have led the Oakland Raiders in receptions and receiving yards in 2011, but that doesn't mean he's untouchable.
Heyward-Bey went No. 7 in the 2009 NFL Draft thanks to his blazing speed. Too bad for the Raiders, he hasn't produced big numbers yet.
The only reason he led the Raiders in 2011 was because the team's wide receiving corps suffered an overabundance of injuries.
The Raiders should get what they can for Heyward-Bey.
Philadelphia Eagles: Pawning Trent Cole Won't Be Popular, but It's Needed
24 of 32Trent Cole has three straight 10-plus sack seasons in a Philadelphia Eagles uniform.
Because the Eagles went on a spending spree in the brief offseason of 2011, the team now has to save some money and draft well.
Due to the fact that the Eagles were the NFL's biggest disappointment in 2011, the team has to make a splash in the draft this year.
They'll do so by trading Cole for numerous draft picks. Like it or not, the Eagles have to plan for the future.
Pittsburgh Steelers: Youth Is Needed, so James Farrior Should Be Traded
25 of 32It became apparent in the Pittsburgh Steelers loss to the Denver Broncos in the 2011 playoffs that the Steelers need a youth movement.
At 37 years old, Steelers linebacker James Farrior is the likely man to be traded.
He's only got one year left on his contract and would be a nice fit for a younger team that needs a defensive tutor.
The Steelers could get a fourth-round pick for Farrior.
He's been great in a Steelers jersey over the years. but for a team that needs to get younger, Farrior doesn't fit the mold.
San Diego Chargers: The Bolts Would Benefit from Dealing Quentin Jammer
26 of 32The San Diego Chargers were once again letdown in 2011.
The team must produce a winner soon or the team may have to find a new home.
One player they deal this offseason is 10-year veteran cornerback Quentin Jammer.
He's down to the last year of his contract, and the Chargers may as well get some value from him while they can.
San Francisco 49ers: Tarell Brown Is in His Prime and Is Alluring
27 of 32This is not to say that the San Francisco 49ers will trade anyone, but if it had to be someone, trading Tarell Brown would pay dividends.
Brown had four interceptions in 2011 and would be the man that would get the 49ers a solid wide receiver.
In his five seasons in the NFL, Brown has gotten stronger each year. He's definitely tempting for teams in need of an above-average cornerback.
Seattle Seahawks: Ben Obomanu Showed Promise and Has Worth
28 of 32Ben Obomanu is a little-used veteran wide receiver in the NFL but showed signs of promise in 2011. His stats totaled 37 catches for 436 yards and two touchdowns.
With the Seattle Seahawks in need of a little bit of everything, it might not be a bad idea to ship out Obomanu for a late-round draft pick.
He could make a huge difference on an experienced team in need of a third receiver.
St. Louis Rams: Hock the No. 2 Pick in the 2012 NFL Draft to the Highest Bidder
29 of 32Right now, the St. Louis Rams are sitting on a goldmine with the No. 2 pick in the upcoming NFL draft.
New head coach Jeff Fisher is no dummy, and he knows that the Rams are the winner of the Robert Griffin III lottery.
The longer the Rams wait to trade the pick, the more they'll get in return.
With plenty of holes to fill, Fisher will begin his tenure in St. Louis with plenty of future draft picks.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Set Sail to Aqib Talib
30 of 32Aqib Talib hasn't necessarily met expectations in the NFL.
A trade from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers could be just what he needs to jumpstart his career.
Talib only had 34 tackles and two interceptions in 2011. That's not the production fans want from their former first-round pick.
The Bucs should be happy to trade Talib and be content with whatever they can get in return.
Tennessee Titans: Spice Things Up by Trading Rob Bironas
31 of 32Trading your field-goal kicker is unheard of, but the Tennessee Titans should entertain the thought this offseason.
Why?
The only answer that can be given is why not.
The Titans can't trade much of anything on offense and will have some major holes left by free agency in their secondary.
Rob Bironas is one of the better kickers in the NFL and would get a good defender in return.
Washington Redskins: Take the Necessary Measurements to Land Robert Griffin III
32 of 32The Washington Redskins need a franchise quarterback.
The answer to their need is Robert Griffin III.
Right now, the Redskins have the No. 6 pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, but they need to find a way to get to the No. 2 spot.
Players, picks, first-born children—whatever it takes, the Redskins need this kid.
RG3 is smart, strong and stealthy. He would make the Redskins relevant again.
