Jeremy Lin: Dream Come True for Himself and NBA Fans

Austen E. MarshellJun 3, 2018

Vicariously, basketball aficionados have no choice but to be with him because the story is just too good.

Sleeping on his brother's couch personalizes the tale even more.

The emotion can be felt as he plays because watching Jeremy Lin, it's clear that this isn't an anomaly of a basketball player. He naturally knows this and learned his love and appreciation for basketball at an early age from his father.

Watching him Friday against the Lakers, it became very clear that Lin knows the game of basketball extremely well.

Spike Lee could be witnessed telling the Knicks, mostly Lin, to slow down, but the urgency that Lin plays with is engaging.

The reality is that this wasn't supposed to happen any longer than 10 days for Lin—if at all. For the avid fan, it's really like being on the ride with him.

Who doesn't want to be at Madison Square Garden when the crowd is rocking at capacity? Let alone be the one making the building shake.

Lin against the Lakers was one of the most engaging performances at Madison Square Garden since Reggie Miller's classic playoff battles. The timeouts and commercials couldn't pass quickly enough.

This wasn't a game against John Wall and the Wizards or Ricky Rubio and the Timberwolves. This was Kobe and the Lakers, and Lin held his own with the pressure of a nationally televised game on ESPN.

Thirty-eight points and seven assists in a win over Kobe. Really?

Lin doesn't fit the description of a gimmick or fluke, and Baron Davis is probably rethinking what his role is going to be with the Knicks now.

Lin seems like a film-watching student of the game finally getting a chance to showcase his knowledge and talent combined.

For the Knicks and coach Mike D'Antoni, this is an enormous boost because Lin is showing a capable ability to execute an offense from the position the Knicks were struggling at the most. As of now, Lin looks as if he could be as efficient as Steve Nash, but we'll see for sure sooner than later.

Lin might sometimes force things, but he's making the Knicks play in cohesion and rhythm, and that's been one of the team's shortcomings this year.

Carmelo Anthony probably can't wait to come back, and if the show continues for Lin and the flash of success for Iman Shumpert, Davis might wish he had signed with the Lakers in order to get playing time.

Where this story goes for Lin and the Knicks in the next few weeks will be interesting to see.

Not only does Lin seem to have understanding of the offense that may set him and Amar'e Stoudemire up for pick-and-roll success, but Lin and Tyson Chandler have shown good signs of mutual understanding.

The Knicks may finally be back, and the quick progression of Lin with consistency is anticipated in New York. It seems fitting that Lin, a Harvard graduate, is assisting in the process of clearing up the confusion.
