WWE No Way Out 2008: Ranking the 6 Raw Elimination Chamber Participants
In 2008, WWE presented two Elimination Chamber matches. One was on the SmackDown side to determine the No. 1 Contender to the World Heavyweight Champion (Edge).
The other Chamber match featured the Raw wrestlers going at it for a WWE Title match at WrestleMania. The "Red Brand" had a lot to live up to. Did the six men come through?
6. JBL
1 of 6JBL was great.
His entire transformation was one of the best in wrestling history.
From being a drunk from Texas to a rich businessman from New York! It all made perfect sense.
By 2008, his run was slowing down. He had just returned from injury, but you could tell it was only a matter of time before he stepped away (for good this time).
In this match, he had next to no chance of winning. His "alliance" with Umaga was fun to follow, but it didn't lead anywhere.
JBL came, saw, and was eliminated early.
5. Umaga
2 of 6Umaga was another great talent for the "Red Brand."
His days in the main event scene were over, but that didn't mean he couldn't put on a great showing night after night.
Umaga did not do much in the Chamber, but he certainly left his mark.
He may have had an "agreement" with JBL, but neither man really lived up to their own end. Umaga gets the higher ranking for the simple fact he executed two spectacular moves.
First, he gave a double Samoan Drop. Two men on his shoulders all in one movement.
Very impressive!
Second, he just drilled Chris Jericho through a glass pod.
Any time that happens, it gets a thumbs up from me!
4. Chris Jericho
3 of 6I was torn here.
Do I go with Shawn Michaels or Chris Jericho?
Both men began the match and had a nice showing. In the end, I gave the lower spot to Jericho. He did not have much steam as a face at the time, and his elimination was abrupt.
Jericho eventually found himself heel a few months later and ended 2008 on a huge roll.
3. Shawn Michaels
4 of 6What a great song!
Anyways, Shawn Michaels was his usual self here. He wasn't going to win but had a great night nonetheless.
He fell victim to a Pedigree from Triple H, but there were no hard feelings. The two had a backstage segment earlier in the night before the match.
HBK followed up this with the "retirement" match against Ric Flair a month later. Great work!
2. Triple H
5 of 6Triple H won this match.
He was (rightfully) heading to a WWE title match at WrestleMania, and there was no other option here. Triple H had to win and did.
No complaints there.
He couldn't get the top ranking though.
One man just did too much at No Way Out 2008.
1. Jeff Hardy
6 of 6Jeff Hardy had a ton of momentum to start the year.
He was beginning to catch on with the audience as a singles act, and the sky was the limit for him.
Sadly for Hardy fans, a few decisions in life can alter your future.
Some will argue Hardy should have won and competed in the main event of WrestleMania. Others were quickly reminded why that was not going to happen a few weeks later.
As with many people, this was Hardy's "test" in the main event. Needless to say, he passed big time.
The next time the company felt the need to push him to the top, they were confident fans would be right there with him. Ten months later (when the time was right), Hardy got his moment.
He shined on this night with many moves, but some people are just their own worst enemies.
