Charlotte Bobcats: Why the Bobcats Must Actively Cash in on the Trade Front

Karthik TadisinaJun 7, 2018

The Charlotte Bobcats need to make changes to their roster and should not rely solely on the next few drafts to improve their team, as it could be a long waiting period before seeing any results.

At this point in time, rookies Kemba Walker and Bismack Biyombo, along with Gerald Henderson, D.J. Augustin and possibly Tyrus Thomas and Byron Mullens, appear to be the “future” pieces of the franchise. Although, one never knows what decisions the Bobcats organization will make that may change the outlook of the team.

The Bobcats need to target better players and be active in trade talks (they have a pretty good GM in Rich Cho), since it is highly unlikely that a superstar-caliber player will consider signing with Charlotte; they are located in a smaller market, and the organization has not made a commitment to winning on a consistent basis.

Even though Michael Jordan is the chairman of the franchise, poor decision making in recent years has not helped the organization gain much positive PR exposure.

The Bobcats should use the expiring contracts of Boris Diaw and Eduardo Najera, as well as the contract of Corey Maggette and others, to bring in players that could at least boost their team in the short-term if not the long-term. Maggette does not appear to be part of the team’s long-term plans and should be moved for a piece that can be of assistance immediately.

One player that could possibly be a decent short-term upgrade would be Andris Biedrins of the Golden State Warriors. Biedrins, this season, does not appear to fit in head coach Mark Jackson’s scheme of things and may need a change of scenery to resurrect his career.

The Bobcats need to be active and make moves that will help the team compete on a nightly basis, as their current performance cannot be acceptable to their fans. Head coach Paul Silas is trying to do the best he can, but he needs help from the front office to keep the stress in his life at a minimum.
