Lakers Rumors: LA Must Trade for Ramon Sessions, Avoid Cancerous Gilbert Arenas
We've hammered the problems with the Los Angeles Lakers offense over and over and over again, but the Lakers have an opportunity to fix some of their current issues if they make the smart move instead of the risky one.
The Lakers have been linked to Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Ramon Sessions, which would be just the type of move general manager Mitch Kupchak needs to make.
Yet they've also been linked to amnestied free-agent guard Gilbert Arenas. That would be the wrong move for Kupchak.
With Sessions, the Lakers would fill one of their biggest needs in acquiring a quality point guard.
He's a scorer, but he's a point guard first and that's what the Lakers need desperately.
Sessions is a good ball-handler and can effectively get teams in and out of offensive sets. He's a guy that knows where the ball needs to go and gets his teammates the ball in positions to have success.
He's not having a great year shooting the ball, but he's a career .448 shooter from the field.
He would be a good fit in Los Angeles.
Arenas would not. He's everything that Sessions is not.
Arenas is a shoot-first type of point guard, but doesn't do that very well. No player in the NBA last season who played at least 15 minutes per night shot worse than the 34 percent Arenas did from the floor.
Then there is the anemic 27.5 percent Arenas shot from behind the arc. The Lakers as a team are only shooting 28 percent fro three-point range. Arenas doesn't help them there.
He's also not a good ball-handler and is a poor defensive guard with bad knees.
There's a reason no one is interested in signing Arenas and the Lakers shouldn't be either.
Sessions is a safer bet who fills a need.
Arenas is a gamble that, quite frankly, would create another need.
