ESPNU 150 2012: Where Eddie Goldman and Top Uncommitted Defenders Will Land
National signing day is nearly upon us, so college football fans will soon learn where some of the nation's top recruits will ultimately play.
Most of the top-flight players have committed by this point, but there is still a handful of elite talent that has yet to make a decision.
The defensive side of the ball certainly features some playmakers with the potential to be great collegiate players. While some of the better defensive players have already been secured, there are definitely some who still merit keeping an eye on.
Here are my predictions for where the top remaining defensive recruits will land.
CB Tracy Howard
As the No. 18 overall player and No. 1 true cornerback in the recruiting class, according to the ESPNU 150, Tracy Howard would most definitely bolster any program's secondary. The Miramar, Florida product has yet to make a decision on his college choice, but it would appear as though there are three main teams in the running.
According Dieter Kurtenbach of the Sun Sentinel, Howard looked like he was going to end up at LSU a couple weeks ago, but he decided to visit with Miami instead. Kurtenbach said that Florida is now considered to be the favorite with Miami and LSU next in line. If Howard was willing to change is visit to Miami, though, I have to believe there is strong interest.
Prediction: Miami
LB Josh Harvey-Clemons
Every team is looking for a playmaking linebacker, and that is precisely what Josh Harvey-Clemons projects to be. Harvey-Clemons is the No. 17 overall player and No. 1 linebacker according to the ESPNU 150.
He still has some growing to do, as he has put just 210 lbs on his 6'4" frame, but he should be dynamic nonetheless.
According to Michael Carvell of the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Georgia, Miami, Florida and Florida State are the four most likely destinations for Harvey-Clemons.
There hasn't been any indication as to where he will land, but it's worth noting that he is from Valdosta, Ga. Based upon that, I think that the Bulldogs have the advantage over the rest of the competition.
Prediction: Georgia
Teams like Alabama, Auburn and LSU have proven in recent years that a dominant defensive line can be the formula for a National Championship win. With that in mind, it's no surprise that the nation's elite programs are vying for defensive tackle Eddie Goldman.
He is currently ranked as the No. 10 overall prospect, No. 3 defensive lineman and No. defensive tackle in the ESPNU 150. Because of that, he is likely the top defensive recruit remaining.
James Wagner of the Washington Post is reporting that the Washington, D.C. product has narrowed his choices to Alabama, Auburn or Florida State.
There hasn't been any true indication regarding which school might nab Goldman, but Wagner thinks Florida State is the front-runner. I think the possibility of teaming with No. 1 overall recruit Mario Edwards on the defensive line will cause Goldman to choose the Seminoles.
Prediction: Florida State
