WrestleMania 28: 9 Wrestlers Who Could Face The Undertaker

David LevinJun 7, 2018

It appears Triple H took his ball and went home last night, not accepting the challenge of The Undertaker the night after the Royal Rumble.

Maybe that becomes a storyline for everyone to watch in the coming weeks.

With 60 days left until wrestling's version of the Super Bowl, The Dead Man finally made his appearance the night after a pay-per-view and helped the WWE show to what was the best night of wrestling I had seen in over a year.

I guess it proves you do not need a PPV event to get your point across and have millions buzzing over a PPV that is two months away.

That is why Vince McMahon is brilliant.

With The Game saying no to Undertaker's request, who is next? Who will carry the torch into the match? Who can break "The Streak?"

Here are some wrestlers who could jump right in and make things interesting.

Wade Barrett

1 of 9

He is involved in a feud with Randy Orton right now that looks like it could become one of those battles like Tommy Rich and Buzz Sawyer or Tully Blanchard and Magnum TA.

It is that bloody hot!

Barrett was rumored as a possible opponent for 'Taker last year, linking the past to the future. And Barrett is red hot right now as the company's lead heel on SmackDown.

Barrett should have gold around his waist in 2012. Maybe in an angle with Sheamus.

Brock Lesnar

The Beast could come back to the WWE.

He has been retired now from UFC and MMA since the beginning of the new year.

Could "The Next Big Thing" come into Miami and take The Undertaker's streak away?

The WWE needs another big heel who is not in line with a Mark Henry or Kane or even a face like Big Show.

Maybe a little more "attitude" and a lot more action. It looks like the WWE is moving toward more "attitude," and this would certainly play right into that angle.

Steve Austin

He is more likely to host WrestleMania than compete in it.

Still, Stone Cold would be an awesome attraction for everyone to see.

Could he still bring it like he has in the past?

Surgeries and being away from the ring for so long may tell us no, but it would be a great show nonetheless.

At some point, I do see him in an angle with CM Punk.

Triple H

4 of 9

He took his ball and went home last night.

But is this a growing storyline for the next few weeks?

Does Undertaker keep asking until Triple H gives in?

Triple H has many irons in the fire and could really be a player at WrestleMania XXVIII, but I am not sure in what capacity that is—whether he is in a match with 'Taker or John Laurinaitis or someone else.

But for right now, Triple H is going to COO and Raw GM.

Shawn Michaels

5 of 9

If there is someone who can give Undertaker an epic match along the lines of Triple H or Kane, it certainly would be The Heartbreak Kid.

Michaels appears from time to time on Raw and still gets the crowd rolling.

He appears to be in great shape and could get in the ring for a "one time only" match.

The Undertaker and Michaels have had epic battles in the past and have torn the roof off arenas, so this would come as no surprise.

Michaels was not included in the Royal Rumble on Sunday, something I personally think was a big loss for WWE fans.

Maybe him coming back to the PPV will make up for that, and he can show he is still the best there is.

Mick Foley

6 of 9

Now that he and "Socko" had a chance to show what they can do against the likes of Santino Marella, let's see what he can do against 'Taker.

Two great veterans and future Hall of Fame wrestlers getting in the ring.

Foley needs to be involved in the middle of WrestleMania. And he has worked two angles that have not been as successful as they could been (Rock/Cena and Punk/Laurinaitis).

For some reason, Foley keeps hanging around, which doesn't thrill me all that much.

But the fans who love Foley will eat this up if it happens.

Batista

7 of 9

Want to see thousands scream in the arena?

Put the muscle-bound Batista in the match.

Batista has been walking the sideline, making comments about the WWE and its direction.

He has teetered with the notion he wants to get back in the ring. Fans want to see him.

Could this work? Maybe. But there has to be buildup. There had to be something there a few weeks ago to show his interest. I cannot see it working in this short amount of time.

WWE executives have commented on the possibility of Batista returning to the ring, but it is not seen in the near future.

The Miz

8 of 9

While this is a long shot, it has some merit.

The Miz is caught in an odd situation right now.

His performance in the Royal Rumble has put him in good stead to move up the title ladder again.

But there are others now who are getting the push, like Jericho and Kofi Kingston.

The Miz's new character is a little cryptic to me, and it makes sense for him to challenge the "big boys" on his way toward making people mad.

Maybe he takes a swipe at saying he can "beat the streak" or calls out 'Taker on Raw.

It's a long shot, but it could be a good match.

Kane

9 of 9

He is the obvious choice, especially with the possibilities of this being the last time we see The Dead Man or the streak coming to an end.

Oh, how this could be the best match in a very long time.

While we are worried about seeing stars from the past coming out of retirement or back from injury and giving subpar performances, this one will not disappoint.

Kane knows 'Taker better than anyone, and the WWE can do plenty of vignettes to highlight and showcase the careers of both men, maybe bringing in Paul Bearer again.

It would be epic, and fans would finally see closure in this wonderful storyline that has lasted three decades.
