According to sources within the WWE the planned WrestleMania 27 match between the Undertaker and Wade Barrett is now apparently off. The WWE is headed in a different direction for the Undertaker's WrestleMania match, but the new opponent is not yet known. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer reported this earlier today.
According to the same sources, the WWE may or may not involve Shawn Michaels in some capacity for the Undertaker's match at the big event. Whatever the capacity may be, Shawn Michaels will not be wrestling. If the WWE decides to involve the Heartbreak Kid, we could see the Undertaker square off against someone with ties to HBK such as Kevin Nash or Triple H.
Whichever route the WWE chooses to go, this is important news because it shows that the Undertaker is definitely in the plans for WrestleMania 27. It wasn't that long ago when some were speculating the Undertaker would not be able to perform at this year's big event. The Undertaker's streak is always a major selling point for WrestleMania and the WWE knows this. Although the plans might be evolving it's clear that we will see the Undertaker put his streak on the line at WresteMania.
So who will the Undertaker's opponent be?
At one point in time it was almost a certainty that we would see Wade Barrett challenge the Deadman on the grandest stage of them all, until recently when the 2/21/11 videos lead to widespread speculation that Sting had finally signed with the WWE. Now that Barrett appears to be out of the equation, is Sting back in the equation? Only time will tell.
