National Signing Day 2012: 5 Schools That Need a Home Run Signing
Many of the college football recruiting classes are close to being set, but there are a few teams that need something big to happen on National Signing Day.
There are a lot of great head coaches across the country, but even the best ones cannot be successful unless they get the top athletes.
Fortunately, there are still a number of talented players that are still uncommitted.
In such a competitive sport, these schools cannot afford to fall behind in the recruiting race.
Florida
1 of 5Florida has already put together a great recruiting class this offseason, but it has the opportunity to be a lot better.
There are a number of five-star recruits that still have the Gators among the final choices.
Stefon Diggs, Darius Howard, Tracy Howard, Nelson Agholor and Leonard Williams all could sign with Florida when all is said and done.
With so many possibilities, coach Will Muschamp better not come home empty handed.
USC
2 of 5USC will return one of the most talented teams in the country next season, but unless Lane Kiffin steps up recruiting efforts there will be a drop in the future.
The Trojans have only received verbal commitments from 12 players so far, but there are a few chances to get more on National Signing Day.
They are still among the finalists for highly-touted players such as Zach Banner, Nelson Agholor and Kyle Murphy. USC is also part of the race for receivers Bryce Treggs and Stefon Diggs.
USC needs to land a couple of these players in order to keep pace with the rest of the NCAA.
LSU
3 of 5In order for LSU to continue being a contender for the national championship, it needs to keep pace with Alabama in recruiting.
So far, the Crimson Tide has had a huge advantage, grabbing key players like Cyrus Jones and Landon Collins.
LSU has not gotten any elite recruits in this draft class, and it does not seem like any of the players left are leaning towards the Tigers.
Les Miles might need to pull an upset on signing day in order to catch up to the other teams.
Florida State
4 of 5Florida State has a chance to become one of the top recruiting class in the country.
The first thing Jimbo Fisher needs to do is make sure that top-quarterback Jameis Winston does not decommit from the Seminoles.
After that, the team needs to get defensive tackle Eddie Goldman and cornerback Ronald Darby to sign their letters of intent.
Florida State is in good shape, but they cannot let these players go free.
Oklahoma
5 of 5According to Scout.com, Texas currently has the top recruiting class in the country. Oklahoma is No. 14.
The Sooners are usually filled with talent, but they cannot afford to fall behind Texas in the Big 12.
Oklahoma is still in the running for skillful players like tackle Zach Banner and safety Nelson Agholor. If the team can sign one of these players it will immediately improve the class.
