Former Penn State Coach Jerry Sandusky Submits Request to See Grandchildren

Josh MartinJun 5, 2018

Former Penn State assistant coach Jerry Sandusky is hoping to reconnect with his family while under house arrest.

More specifically, his grandchildren.

According to the Harrisburg Patriot-News, Sandusky will ask Judge John Cleland, the same judge presiding over his child sex abuse case, on February 10th to adjust the terms of his bail so he can spend time with his grandchildren. The current terms of Sandusky's bail block him from having contact with children of any sort, including those in his own family.

Sandusky's request, filed on Friday by his attorney, Joe Amendola, suggests that his grandchildren miss him and want to see him. It also asks that he be allowed to meet with them at his home in College Township, with at least one parent present, and that he be permitted to communicate with them by phone call, text message and/or Skype.

Amendola has stated previously that some of Sandusky's accusers have come from within his own family, though it remains unclear as to whether or not those allegations are the impetus of any of the charges currently being brought against Sandusky.

Keep in mind, none of Sandusky's grandchildren are related to him by blood. He and his wife Dottie have no biological children of their own, but have adopted six children and taken in others for foster care.

Sandusky's motion also includes a request to allow home visits from his friends and excursions to meet with his attorney and private investigators to discuss his case.

Sandusky was charged back in November with more than 50 counts of sexually abusing children, spanning a period of 15 years and encounters with at least 10 victims, some of whom he encountered through his Second Mile Foundation.

He spent 30 years as an assistant on the Nittany Lions football team under legendary coach Joe Paterno, who was fired after the Sandusky scandal broke this past fall. Paterno passed away on Sunday at the age of 85 amidst his personal battle with lung cancer.
