Super Bowl Predictions 2012: Why Tom Brady Will Lead Patriots to Fourth Title

Ryan PhillipsJan 26, 2012

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has had an incredible season. The 34-year-old is the NFL's reigning MVP and he now has his team poised to win its fourth Super Bowl title. When the big game rolls around, I think Brady will step up and guide the Patriots to another championship.

During the regular season Brady completed 65.6 percent of his passes for a career-high 5,235 yards, with 39 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. His quarterback rating of 105.6 ranked third in the NFL. He led a Patriots offense that ranked second in the NFL in yards per game (428) and second in passing yards per game (317.8).

While Brady had plenty of talent at his disposal, he figured out a way to spread the ball around to all of those weapons.

Receiver Wes Welker led the NFL in receptions (122), finished second in receiving yards (1,569) and scored nine touchdowns. Rob Gronkowski finished second among all tight ends in receptions (90), led them in yards (1,327) and set the single-season NFL record for touchdowns at the position (17).

Brady also found a way to get steady veteran Deion Branch involved, hitting him 51 times for 702 yards and five touchdowns, while second-year tight end Aaron Hernandez finished the year with 79 catches for 910 yards and seven touchdowns.

The New York Giants will be tasked with stopping Brady and those weapons with a defense that ranked 27th total defense this season. In addition, the G-Men were 29th in passing yards allowed per game (255.1), so unless something drastic changes, I expect Brady to pick New York apart.

New England's long-time signal-caller has been outstanding during his team's current 10-game winning streak, and I don't think that will change in Indianapolis during Super Bowl XLVI. Don't be surprised when he hoists his fourth world championship next Sunday.
