Philadelphia 76ers: Evan Turner Shouldn't Start over Jodie Meeks
Right now, the Philadelphia 76ers are 12-5 with Jodie Meeks as the starting shooting guard.
And most importantly, unless that record changes dramatically, it should stay that way.
The Sixers have been winning with their formula and shouldn't look to make a move as long as it's giving them the desired results.
In 17 games this season, Meeks has averaged 9.5 points per game while shooting 41 percent from three as the starting shooting guard.
His three-point shot is his greatest asset, and his amazing performance during the early part of last year (particularly a game in which he hit six threes in a quarter) earned him the starting nod on the team.
Meeks held that position the entire season and into this year.
He has been more tempered this year, although he has played a role in many of the Sixers wins by sparking runs and driving to the hoop more.
He has even reached a career high in points (26 points vs. Washington).
Meeks is also good from the line (shooting 89 percent from the stripe albeit only averaging one appearance per game).
Meeks was traded to Philly midway through his rookie campaign in Milwaukee during the '09-'10 season and has blossomed into a formidable NBA player.
He still has room to improve as a player if he can continue to hit shots and drive to the basket more effectively.
Meeks can be a player who can average at least 15 points per game on the Sixers and be a legitimate three-point threat as well as a clutch shooter down the stretch.
An argument can be made that Evan Turner deserves the spot more than Meeks because he was a higher draft pick and his size gives him an advantage on defense.
However, the answer comes in the form of a simple expression.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
