Why the Dallas Mavericks Need Consistency from Rodrigue Beaubois This Season
One player that is starting to show signs of his old self is French guard Rodrigue Beaubois of the Dallas Mavericks. Beaubois was drafted in the first round (25th overall pick) by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2009 NBA Draft, although his rights were traded to the Dallas Mavericks almost immediately. Beaubois has fallen victim to a foot injury that has caused him to miss a lot of games in his young professional basketball career.
Beaubois showed signs of becoming a key part of the team’s offense after scoring 40 points (including going 9 of 11 from the three-point line and tying an NBA record) in a game versus the Golden State Warriors in 2010. However, Beaubois broke his foot in the summer and was sidelined for about six months, as he was able to play in the last part of the 2010-11 NBA season before hurting his foot once more, which sidelined him for the remainder of the championship season.
Last season Beaubois was given a chance to play in the starting lineup, but was eventually replaced by DeShawn Stevenson, who went on to become the permanent starter after Beaubois was declared out due to the foot injury.
However, Beaubois may once again be given the opportunity to be a contributor this season and is more likely to do so coming off the bench. The Mavericks, who possess a roster filled with veterans, need help from the younger guys like Beaubois, who will get many opportunities this season to show his skills.
In a game versus the Utah Jazz this past Thursday, Beaubois scored 17 points and many of his points came in the clutch. The Mavericks need more of this from Beaubois, as Mavericks veteran forward Dirk Nowitzki is expected to miss four games to rest a sore knee and work on his conditioning. Starter Jason Kidd also has missed time earlier this season with a back injury.
Overall, Beaubois is a player that the Mavericks still think highly of, and are hoping that he can be a contributor to their team for years to come.
