Which MLB Team Has the Ugliest Spring Training Uniforms?
It's hard to believe we're already here, but the 2012 edition of MLB spring training is just a few weeks away as pitchers and catchers ready themselves for some time in the sun.
Putting on their uniforms for the first time in a few months, every team starts fresh with championship hopes.
Most MLB attire in spring training doesn't look a lot different than its regular season counterpart, but some teams do go in a different direction, adding details that they just wouldn't (and in some cases shouldn't) get away with during the season.
Here's a look at some typical spring training gear, for better or worse.
Boston Red Sox
1 of 30The Boston Red Sox don't stray too far from their classic jerseys, as the main difference here aside from the blue base is the accent color under the arms, something that most teams utilize in their spring training gear.
Chicago Cubs
2 of 30While I'm not a huge fan of the all blue/red jersey, I'll take this Cubs logo over their alternative any day.
St. Louis Cardinals
3 of 30Even though I'm not a huge St. Louis fan, anything with the Cardinals logo is good in my book.
Arizona Diamondbacks
4 of 30I don't know for sure whether or not the Diamondbacks use a version similar to this as an alternate during the season or not, but the usage of the snake to make up the D on the chest certainly is a unique touch.
Cleveland Indians
5 of 30I see a fair amount of Indians games throughout the year, and don't believe they have this alternate uniform in the fold for the regular season.
But, they should.
San Francisco Giants
6 of 30Not much has changed with the Giants uniforms over the years, and their spring training attire isn't a whole lot different from the alternate jerseys they wear from time to time throughout the season.
Texas Rangers
7 of 30Aside from some different detailing on the cap, not a whole lot different going on here.
Colorado Rockies
8 of 30With a color as unique as purple (in terms of MLB uniforms) it's almost surprising the Rockies don't go with an all purple jersey in the spring, as a number of other teams opt to go with more bold colors during spring training.
Kansas City Royals
9 of 30I've always been a fan of the simplicity of the Kansas City Royals' uniforms, so the blue jersey here is in my opinion a step down from their home whites.
Chicago White Sox
10 of 30Another jersey very similar to their alternate jersey worn throughout the season, the White Sox spring training uniform seen here is simple enough to keep with the team's appeal.
Miami Marlins
11 of 30With a new stadium, new lineup and new uniforms, we don't yet know what their spring training uniforms will look like.
If they plan on making a statement with their team colors though, you'd better believe they'll have an aqua alternate in the fold.
Los Angeles Angels
12 of 30The Halos do their team nickname justice here in including their logo on the chest of the spring training uni, and I suppose the simplicity of the spring training version does its purpose, although it almost seems overly plain.
Oakland Athletics
13 of 30Like most major league teams, the Oakland Athletics spring training unis don't differ much from their regular alternate attire.
Atlanta Braves
14 of 30I'll always be a fan of the tomahawk logo that the Atlanta Braves use, but I'm not sold on the white pinstriping on their cap here.
Cincinnati Reds
15 of 30The Cincinnati Reds step away from their traditional logo in the spring, moving towards this uniform that boasts the team's namesake.
Philadelphia Phillies
16 of 30Color is key in all spring training uniforms apparently, as the Phillies go away from the typical cream color and add their red as the focal point for the spring.
Los Angeles Dodgers
17 of 30The Dodgers appear to be one of the only teams that utilizes numbers on the front of their spring training jerseys.
I do like that idea, although I'm not sure why they're red?
Milwaukee Brewers
18 of 30As much as I really don't mind the Brewers' current jersey, I'm still bitter that they went away from the glove logo and their former blue and gold colors.
Houston Astros
19 of 30I don't mind this uniform so much, but the cap with the state of Texas on it is far less appealing than the ones they wear throughout the season.
San Diego Padres
20 of 30I know they may not be the favorites of baseball fans across the country, but I tend to prefer a Padres camouflage uni they don from time to time at home throughout the season.
Tampa Bay Rays
21 of 30The bright white Rays uniform definitely gives a cleaner look, but any uniform they put on now is a step up from the terrible jerseys they wore in the early days of their franchise.
New York Yankees
22 of 30It's almost a disappointment to see this uniform. After all, when you think of the Yankees, you think of the pinstripes (and of course a boatload of World Championships).
Seattle Mariners
23 of 30Since I don't get a chance to catch many Mariners games during the season, I don't know if they have a darker alternate that they wear at times, but this navy version of their home uniform is a good look.
New York Mets
24 of 30The Mets are another team with a classic logo that has gone through little modification throughout the years.
I guess in this case I'm just glad they're not going with all orange uniforms.
Minnesota Twins
25 of 30Being a Twins fan, I definitely prefer the TC logo to the M logo they donned on their caps for so many years.
That said, it doesn't work on the jerseys.
Washington Nationals
26 of 30I get that the spring training uniforms are typically toned down from the regular season jerseys, but this version of the Nationals' regular season jersey with the white accents stripped off and numbers removed is a step back.
Detroit Tigers
27 of 30I really do prefer the Tigers' white and navy uniforms to the ones that include the orange accents, but when you're going with this look, you can't wear gray pants.
Toronto Blue Jays
28 of 30I'm sure the Blue Jays' spring training unis will take a step in the right direction this February with the team moving back to a retro style logo.
Pittsburgh Pirates
29 of 30Pittsburgh teams are (and probably always will be) known for the black and yellow that signifies the steel city.
There's just a little too much here though, as players seem to resemble a school bus as much as a baseball player.
Baltimore Orioles
30 of 30The Oriole orange looks great as an accent color, but when you make that the basis of your uniform, your players tend to look more like parking cones.
