New York Knicks: What We Learned from Friday's Loss
"It is still early in this NBA season for the Knicks faithful to begin to panic" would be what you could have said before you watched the woeful play against the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday night.
With high expectations heading into the 2012 campaign the Knicks have been flat out embarrassing. With disgusting shooting, horrible defense, and atrocious play calling, something needs to be done for the Knicks to expect to be playing in May.
With an 100-86 defeat to the Bucks on Friday the Knicks have extended their loosing streak to five, making their home record 3-5. The win was the first on the road for the Bucks this season.
Up to this point fans have been getting restless, on Friday the Knicks have solidified many opinions concerning their play thus far.
Next to the Wizards, the Knicks Are the Most Selfish Team in the League
1 of 4You don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out that the isolation offense strategy is clearly not working. Weather its Amar'e Stoudemire or Carmelo Anthony taking the shot, they have simply not been falling. In order for the Knicks to have success they need a plan B. And no, plan B is not handing the ball off to a rookie hoping that he can drain a three or keep up the energy for four quarters.
The Knicks run one of three plays:
1) Isolation Melo.
2) Amar'e catch, dribble once, jump shot
3) Pass around the arc, hoping for an open shot to form itself, and when it doesn't, try and drive through four defenders to the basket.
The Knicks need something else, because this thin playbook is not working.
Mike Bibby Is Officially Old Enough to Retire
2 of 4The Knicks signed Bibby with the hopes of adding a little depth to the guard position, because we all know how good Tony Douglas is. Bibby has done absolutely nothing off the bench, and is showing no life. He has not even been making open threes to get the tempo going. It was a nice idea, but let's face it, Bibby can go.
The Knicks Are Relying on Baron Davis to Be the Almighty Savior
3 of 4The guy has a lot of emotion, and leadership, but honestly how much can the Knicks rely on him? The most important thing he has won in his career was the Skills Challenge in 2004.
There is indeed some hope that his passing skills can be the answer that the big scorers have been looking for to balance the attack, but there is too much pressure being built up.
For him to fit in, the Knicks need to find some sort of groove even before he comes back.
D'antoni Needs to Be Fired
4 of 4He didn't win in Phoenix, and he is not winning in New York. He has unable to get past the conference finals with a much more talented Suns team, and we're expecting him to lead the Knicks to the promised land?
The system does not work, and it hasn't worked with all three different Knicks teams that he has coached in the past year and a half. The Knicks need a coach with fire that won't be afraid to tell Carmelo and Amar'e what to do.
