What's At Stake?
Both teams come into this game riding awful losing streaks.
The Suns haven’t won in five games, and the Knicks are losers of their last three.
However, the Suns are in a lot worse shape during their bad stretch, allowing 106 points per game on average to be scored against them.
New York needs to take advantage of their terrible defense to get their shooting touch back and pick up a home win.
What They're Saying
Paul Coro of the Arizona Republic caught up with coach Alvin Gentry and found that he knows his team can’t hang anymore when giving up a boatload of points.
"We never got them slowed down. We gave up 118 points. This is not the Phoenix Suns of old. We might've had a chance to win a few years back, but now we've got to be able to guard people. We never got them slowed down.
"
Brian Lewis of the New York Post found that the Knicks are going to be pursuing Steve Nash in the offseason.
"Nash, who ran D’Antoni’s system to perfection, was averaging an NBA-high 10.1 assists before last night’s 118-97 loss to the Bulls, even though he will turn 38 next month. That’s why The Post has reported the Knicks plan to target Nash (along with Jameer Nelson and Raymond Felton) with this summer’s $5 million mid-level exception.
"
Suns Player to Watch: Steve Nash
This ageless wonder is still playing his heart out despite being in the middle of a rebuilding effort in Phoenix.
See if he’ll push the young guys extra hard to beat his old coach and teammate tonight in New York.
Knicks Player to Watch: Carmelo Anthony
Carmelo had a terrible outing on Martin Luther King Day against the Magic. He was 9-of-27 from the field and 1-of-8 from downtown.
The worst part was that he retweaked his ankle towards the end of the loss.
Key Matchup: Amar’e Stoudemire vs. Suns' low-post defense.
Stoudemire has torched the Suns for 64 points in his two games since joining the Knicks as a free agent in the summer of 2010.
He really brought it last year, so watch tonight to see if he’s got that same passion.
Prediction
Knicks 114, Suns 105
