LeSean McCoy vs. Osi Umenyiora and the Best Twitter Beefs in Sports
Social media is simply dominant in today's sports world, especially on Twitter.
Thanks to Twitter we get the latest updates in sports as quickly as possible and we get entertaining analysis of the latest stories.
Also thanks to Twitter, we get to witness funny, crazy and entertaining verbal fights among popular athletes.
Here are the best Twitter beefs in sports.
Keep in mind as big as Twitter is in today's sports world, I'm bound to miss quite a few Twitter beefs among athletes. Please comment on ones I missed below!
And here they are, with all tweets in 140 characters or fewer, of course.
Bill Walton and Chris Brown
1 of 8Isn't it ironic that R&B artist Chris Brown is a "hit" on Twitter?
Too soon?
Whether it's funny or just wrong, former NBA star Bill Walton decided to take a similar swing at the pop star on Twitter: "'Chris Brown is a legend' is trending on Twitter. With that, we should all celebrate his greatest hits starting with Rihanna. Congrats, Ike!"
Of course, Chris Brown had to freak out with multiple tweets: "I don’t say s*** to anybody and everyone feels its cool to attack me. GROWN ADULTS!!!! that s*** happened three years ago!”, “I know alot of you wack @ss (OLD) celebrities probably wanna f*** my ex but talking s*** on me wont get u far" and "And to be REALLY HONEST… yall wonder why n**** spazzes all the time? Lol.”
Does Chris Brown think he can win this Twitter battle by being a spaz himself and by dropping numerous four letter words?
Nope, he just sounds like an idiot. Props to Walton, he won this battle.
Peter Moylan and Nickelback
2 of 8Okay, I'm starting to think no one likes Nickelback.
Apparently Atlanta Braves relief pitcher Peter Moylan is no different. Moylan tweeted: "Note to @nickelback please attend a @foofighters concert. That's how's it should be done chad."
Nickelback responded: "@PeterMoylan Foos are killer for sure. We're doing just fine too thanks. ? for you Pete, is watching Kimbrel better from the bench or on TV?"
All I have to say is damn. For those who don't know, Craig Kimbrel is the pitcher who beat out Moylan as the starting closer for the Braves.
For the record, I'm not a Nickelback fan either, but Chad Kroeger and his boys won this Twitter battle.
Ray Rice and Ryan Clark
3 of 8Hines Ward has always been known as one of the NFL's most intimidating wide receivers.
So when Ward was arrested for a DUI back in July, it wasn't a total shocker to the Twitter world.
Of course, rival Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice just had to make a comment about the situation on Twitter: "Well it looks like Hines Ward will miss week 1 when the lockout ends DUI charge not a good look."
Backing up Hines' fellow teammate, safety Ryan Clark didn't like Ray Rice's tweet. "I hear ya brother. Thought we were all better than that. Wouldn't speak negative of you. I'll find you! It's not hard. God bless."
Looks like we didn't have to wait long for the Steelers/Ravens rivalry to battle it out on the Internet, too.
Bill Spooner and Jon Krawczynski
4 of 8While covering a game between the Houston Rockets and the Minnesota Timberwolves, AP reporter Jon Krawczynski listened in on a conversation between referee Bill Spooner and Timberwolves coach Kurt Rambis.
As a result of the conversation, Krawczynski tweeted: "Ref Bill Spooner told Rambis he'd "get it back" after a bad call. Then he made an even worse call on Rockets. That's NBA officiating folks."
Instead of making a counter on Twitter, Spooner actually sued Krawczynski as a result of the tweet, citing the accusation of game fixing. The suit sought more than $75,000 in damages and a deletion of the tweet.
Spooner later dropped the suit, but it was still an extreme overreaction. Has he ever heard of free speech?
Matt Hasselbeck and Antonio Cromartie
5 of 8After Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie made statements concerning the questioning the leadership of the NFLPA in January of 2011, then Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck made the quick jab on Twitter: "Somebody ask Cromartie if he knows what CBA stands for" referring to the collective bargaining agreement.
Hasselback quickly deleted the tweet. Of course Cromartie found out about the tweet before the deletion with a quick response: "Hey Matt if u have something to (say) then say it be a man about it. Don't erase it. I will smash ur face in."
Hasselbeck then responded: "Sorry for the joke man. No hard feelings. DB's & QB's have a hard time getting along I guess sometimes. lol"
Cool to see Hasselbeck laughed the whole thing off. Unfortunately, when Hasselbeck signed a deal with the Tennessee Titans for the 2011 season the Jets weren't on the schedule rotation.
Bummer.
Bernard Berrian and John Kriesel
6 of 8Bernard Berrian should probably learn more about local politicians before making crazy remarks on Twitter, and he's definitely one to make numerous crazy remarks.
This one was a little over the top though.
Minnesota House Representative John Kriesel thought he would share Berrian's Twitter handle tweeting: "If you want to follow a hilarious twitter account, try @B_Twice who says that he's open a lot and should get the ball more."
Berrian outrageously responded: "@johnkriesel Anytime u wanna watch the film with me. Not just one game but all of them. And if not sit down n shut up!!"
What a bad idea. For those outside of Minnesota, Kriesel is a disabled veteran who lost both of his legs while serving in Iraq.
Berrian had no idea who Kriesel was before he made the comment, but the response is still shocking.
Can you say awkward?
Kyrie Irving and Jessica Jackson
7 of 8Soon after Kyrie Irving was the first pick in the 2011 NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers, he filed for a restraining order against Miss Hawaii Jessica Jackson
Reports state the two met in person for two minutes in Charleston, North Carolina. Irving then stated that Jackson posted You Tube videos bashing him and she threatened to stab him via Irving's Twitter account.
When both appeared in court on June 28th, the judge ordered Jackson to never make contact with Irving again.

LeSean McCoy and Osi Umenyiora
8 of 8The NFL lockout before this season meant NFL players had a little extra time on their hands.
For some reason, Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy thought it was necessary to call New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora "overrated n soft" on Twitter last July.
Umenyiora viciously responded by calling McCoy a "Chihuahua" and also referred to him as "Lady Gaga".
I guess McCoy was just "Born this way," right?
Okay, Lady Gaga jokes are bad, especially on a sports website. But do you remember those annoying girls in high school who never quit starting up drama? That's who McCoy and Umenyiora remind me of.
Good thing this whole NFL lockout thing was resolved.
