7 Signs Kevin Garnett's Production Is in a Massive Freefall
Once one of the dominant power forwards of his generation, Boston Celtics forward Kevin Garnett has had a fantastic NBA career with a ring to show for it.
Much has been made about the age of Boston's Big Three, but it's evident that of the three, Garnett is the one on his way out the door.
His production is in a free fall, as is the Celtics season.
Here's a look at seven signs that Garnett won't pick things up.
Celtics Struggling
1 of 7Look at the struggles of the 4-8 Boston Celtics as a team and they mirror what Garnett used to give them.
The Celtics are 26th in the NBA in points per game and 28th in rebounding.
Both are areas Garnett used to produce in and the Celtics didn't plan on his production falling off the table.
Minutes
2 of 7Garnett is averaging 31.3 minutes through the Celtics 12 games, which is more than Doc Rivers planned on giving him in order to keep his legs fresh for the playoffs.
With the amount of games packed into the compressed schedule this season, it is almost likely that his body will wear down before long.
Recent Production
3 of 7He used to be an automatic double-double, but Garnett has only gotten to those numbers on three different occasions this season.
Two have come in his past five games, but he's logging over 33 minutes of game action in that span.
Scoring
4 of 7Garnett has averaged close to 20 points per game throughout his career, but has eclipsed that number on only two different occasions this season.
Drop that number down to 15 points and he's also done that only two different times.
His scoring average is down to 13.5 points per game.
Even worse, Garnett is shooting a career-worst 46-percent from the field.
Rebounding
5 of 7Garnett has averaged close to 11 rebounds per game throughout his career and has only hit double digits three different times.
He's grabbed less than eight rebounds in seven of Boston's 12 games so far.
With rebounding such a major problem on this team so far, Garnett isn't making an impact at all.
Double-Teams
6 of 7Something that made the Celtics very dangerous was the fact that Garnett is a great passer out of double-teams. That ability created a ton of open looks for other teammates.
Garnett doesn't warrant being doubled very often anymore, which means far less easy baskets.
Defense
7 of 7Garnett used to be a guy that could be counted on to contribute on the defensive end as well.
He's not doing that either.
He could get you a block or two per night, but even those numbers are down over a whole block per game.
The Celtics are a team that needs production and Garnett is clearly in a free fall. He likely can't be counted on to do much on a consistent basis for the rest of the season.
