Denver vs. New England: Adjustments the Broncos Must Make in the 2nd Half

Aliko CarterJan 14, 2012

It's Tim Tebow and company vs. the Empire that is the New England Patriots today in Foxborough. However, it's been four years since the Patriots have won a playoff game, and they're coming into this game very hungry.

The upstart 8-8 Broncos have nothing to lose and everything to gain. I see another episode of "Tebow Time" in the Broncos' future.

Here are four halftime adjustments for them to take this huge game in Foxborough.

1. First Defensive Drive

The Broncos must not let the Patriots score—and definitely not within two minutes—on the first defensive of the second half. The Patriots thrive as a team that gets out to an early lead. Denver's vaunted Von Doom pass rush has to be better than New England's wall of an offensive line.

2. No More Fumbles

Fumbles are extremely dangerous for Denver, especially against the Patriots. If the Broncos continue to give Tom Brady good field position to work with, this game will get truly out of hand, and fast.

3. Pressure Tom Brady

Tom Brady has always been a very comfortable pocket quarterback, and one of today's biggest battles is which team's offensive line will hold up better. For Denver to win, they have to win that battle, because Brady started this game firing on all cylinders, and he's a notoriously poor scrambler.

Make Brady feel the pain, and his completion percentage will go down accordingly.

4. Get the Receivers Involved

The Denver receiving corps has been eerily quiet tonight, and the Broncos are not going to win tonight if Tebow doesn't throw the ball. There needs to be more Demaryius Thomas to balance out this Denver offense and keep the Pats' defense honest.
