Knicks Rumors: Insane Amar'e Stoudemire Trade Talks Won't Distract New York
While the New York Knicks have not exactly started the season on fire, there is still hope for this team to get better as the year moves along.
But the insane talk of trading A'mare Stoudemire for Dwight Howard is not the way to make the team play better.
The idea was proposed by Ken Berger of CBS Sports. He basically said that Orlando would be able to sell Stoudemire to its fans, because he is a superstar.
"A deeper question exists in whether Madison Square Garden chairman James Dolan would sign off on trading Stoudemire, who was the only star willing to commit to the Knicks and embrace the challenges of New York in July 2010.
For the aforementioned reasons, sources say it's plausible but unlikely that the Knicks and Orlando would be able to get any such talks off the ground. For one thing, it makes too much sense.
"
But with that deal looking more and more like a pipe-dream, the Knicks need to focus on the players that they currently have, and those that will be returning from injuries.
Stoudemire even told the New York Daily News that he doesn't "worry about that stuff" because he knows that it is pointless when this team is not that far from competing in the Eastern Conference with one or two more smaller moves.
Iman Shumpert has been terrific since returning from a knee injury. When Baron Davis returns in a few weeks, he will be able to take pressure off Shumpert by playing some valuable minutes to keep his legs fresh.
The style that Mike D'Antoni likes to play does not bode well for the shortened season. They are going to be running up and down the floor on back-to-back-to-back nights at times, which means they are likely going to wear down.
This team needs Stoudemire, Tyson Chandler and Carmelo Anthony to get on the same page in order to make a playoff run. Those three haven't had good chemistry with each other, though part of that could be because Anthony was playing through back pain.
Chandler has made a difference on the defensive side of the ball, which explains why they have improved to 18th in the NBA in points allowed.
But there is no rhythm to what the Knicks are trying to do right now. Trading Stoudemire, who is still a great power forward, does not solve the problems that this team has.
Any talk of trading for Howard needs to be squashed, and the Knicks need to focus on the team that is in front of them right now—not the one the fans want them to have.
The players and coaches will figure it out, because they are far more talented than they have shown so far this season.
