Ricky Rubio Makes the Minnesota Timberwolves Must-Watch TV
If you haven't watched Ricky Rubio and the Minnesota Timberwolves this year, I just have one question for you. Why not? If you're a fan of basketball, you have to watch this team play.
Sure the Timberwolves have one of the best, if not the very best, power forward in the game in Kevin Love. Sure they have the second overall pick from last year's draft in Derrick Williams.
What they have that makes them must-watch TV is their rookie, Ricky Rubio, though. (Say that out loud five times fast, rookie Ricky Rubio, rookie Ricky Rubio, rookie Ricky Rubio, rookie Ricky Rubio, rookie Ricky Rubio.)
It's as much to watch him play as it is to say his name. His ability to make plays is just something special. He breaks down defenses and opens up the court in a way that's reminiscent of Steve Nash. He has tremendous court vision and basketball IQ.
His play making ability explodes on the court. One moment it's all calm and quiet in a half-court offense and the next—BOOM! Derrick Williams is dunking the ball on an alley-oop.
Usually when we think about the great play makers it's about points in transition and LeBron James and Dwyane Wade making spectacular passes and finishes, or Derrick Rose going baseline to baseline in a negative 1.2 seconds.
That's not the kind of explosive offense where talking about with Minnesota and that's what makes them so exciting to watch. Rubio breaks down defenses and makes the Timberwolves explosive out of a set offense.
If you're sort of sick of watching isolation plays and the elite offensive players hold on to the ball for 10 seconds, then putting on some amazing move and scoring, this is a team you need to watch. What makes them so much fun is the ball movement and the way that Rubio makes offense just appear from nowhere.
It's the type of thing you have to see to appreciate, but if you watch him play, you'll agree. Ricky Rubio makes the 'Wolves one of the most enjoyable watches in the NBA.
