Giants Rumors: Players Were Frustrated with Daniel Jones Despite Public Comments
Despite the impression some personnel gave publicly Sunday, outgoing quarterback Daniel Jones was the source of some exasperation within the New York Giants, according to The MMQB's Albert Breer.
Breer reported that "there was quite a bit of frustration with Jones from players and coaches before his release, with how hesitant he was to pull the trigger and for all the throws he missed."
The Giants lost 30-7 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their first game after announcing they're moving on from Jones. Tommy DeVito, who started at quarterback, went 21-of-31 for 189 yards.

Some of the postgame comments from Giants players made it clear they didn't think Jones was the only problem behind what had been a 2-8 start with him under center.
Still, one assumes plenty of players and coaches from New York believed Jones' performances were at least one problem. The 2019 first-round pick threw for 2,070 yards, eight touchdowns and seven interceptions, and his 46.2 QBR ranks 28th in the NFL, per ESPN.com.
Over time, it became increasingly more difficult to ignore that Jones' career year in 2022 was a mirage. He simply isn't a franchise quarterback, and the $160 million contract he signed on the heels of his success two seasons ago became a millstone for the Giants.
Having said that, New York is in need of more than just a new quarterback. Sweeping changes across the organization could be in store.
For head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen, one downside of benching and subsequently cutting ties with Jones is that they'll have to own whatever happens on the field the rest of the way.
