Haason Reddick Officially Signs Adjusted Jets Contract; Will Make Debut vs. Patriots

Adam WellsOct 26, 2024

After a six-month contract standoff, Haason Reddick is officially ready to make his debut for the New York Jets on Sunday.

Drew Rosenhaus and Ryan Matha, Reddick's agents, told ESPN's Adam Schefter the two-time Pro Bowler signed his reworked contract with the Jets on Saturday and will make his debut tomorrow against the New England Patriots.

Reddick ended his holdout on Sunday when his agents told Schefter he agreed to an adjusted contract with the Jets.

Rosenhaus said at the time they would "continue to work towards a long-term extension with the Jets" now that this part of the negotiation is over.

The Jets originally acquired Reddick in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles on April 1. He had been seeking a long-term contract from the Eagles before the deal and he never requested a trade, while also understanding things from a business perspective.

Even after the trade to the Jets, Reddick never showed up for any offseason activities—including organized team activities, mandatory minicamp, training camp and preseason—while seeking a new contract.

Reddick's reworked deal pays him the remaining $8.7 million base salary from his original contract, plus the potential for an additional $5.3 million in performance incentives.

Schefter noted the Jets agreed to waive more than $12 million in fines Reddick accrued for all of his time missed, which includes seven game checks from the regular-season games he didn't play.

The Jets' pass rush has been inconsistent so far this season. They are tied for sixth in the NFL with 21 sacks, but their pass-rush win rate of 36 percent ranks 24th.

Will McDonald IV has been the one constant source of pressure for New York's defense. He already has a career-high eight sacks and is tied for seventh in the league with seven tackles for loss.

Reddick will give the Jets another high-level pass-rusher off the edge. He put up at least 11 sacks in each of the previous four seasons.

The Patriots are a great team for a defensive lineman to get his feet wet after a long layoff. They have given up the second-most sacks (25) in the NFL. Even though the offense has played better with Drake Maye at quarterback, he's still been sacked six times in his first two starts.

New York is looking to end its four-game losing streak and build some positive momentum. This is a good week to do it because the Jets already have a 24-3 win over the Patriots in Week 3 when their offense put up a season-high 400 yards.
