NFL Team Needs: Prioritizing Every Roster's Biggest Weaknesses Before Week 7
A semblance of balance was seemingly restored in Week 6 of the 2024 NFL season. Favored teams showed they were favorites for a reason, as no underdog won through the first 13 matchups. We're more than a quarter-way through the campaign now, and the trade deadline is three weeks away. What these teams are and what they need to improve is becoming clear.
Every week of the season, we'll assess the state of each roster with a particular focus on its weaknesses. By the end of the campaign, we'll have built a big board for every team based on its biggest needs and wants. Everything from immediate holes to fill to the offseason player carousel of free agency and the 2025 NFL draft is taken into account.
The weaknesses here are not just knee-jerk reactions to the weekend's games but more an overarching assessment of present and future roster-building.
All AFC teams are scouted by Alex Ballentine, and all NFC teams are scouted by Matt Holder.
B/R's NFL coverage sees several of these players highlighted in more detail throughout the week elsewhere as well:
Further analysis of every NFL roster will publish each Monday throughout the regular season.
Arizona Cardinals
1 of 32
It feels like this past week was the early turning point of the Arizona Cardinals' season.
The team was coming off a big upset in San Francisco and had a chance to even up its record to set the stage for a potential playoff run. Instead, Arizona fell to Green Bay and sits at 2-4, where it's probably best to start thinking about the future for the rest of the campaign.
Biggest Weaknesses:
- Defensive Tackle
- Edge-Rusher
- Guard
- Right Tackle
- Cornerback
Add Now: G Mark Glowinski
Will Hernandez was placed on season-ending injured reserve this week, which is a big blow for the Cardinals offense, as they'll be down a starting guard. There aren't many good options to replace Hernandez at this stage, but Glowinski might be the team's best bet since he has nearly 100 career starts and can play either guard spot.
2025 Free Agency: WR Chris Godwin, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
While wide receiver won't be a top need in Arizona this spring, the club is currently projected to have nearly $120 million in cap space during the offseason, per Over The Cap. So, the front office can splurge for an elite talent. Also, the team has four wideouts who are impending free agents, meaning they'll need some depth there anyway.
Godwin can operate out of the slot while Marvin Harrison Jr. and Micheal Wilson are on the outside. Plus, the eight-year veteran would be a good mentor to have for the No. 4 overall pick.
2025 NFL Draft: CB/WR Travis Hunter, Colorado
We'll have to see if Monti Ossenfort ends up having a high enough pick to select the two-way star. But, if Ossenfort does have the capital, it will be hard for him to turn down Hunter, especially considering the defense could use some extra talent at cornerback.
"In coverage, Hunter showcases a rare blend of physical tools and mental acuity," B/R's defensive backs scout Cory Giddings said via the Buffalo's scouting report. "His excellent vision and awareness allow him to maintain leverage while in coverage, consistently positioning himself to make plays on the ball.
"Hunter's twitchy athleticism and rapid acceleration enable him to close gaps quickly, while his long speed allows him to keep pace with any receiver he's matched against."
(Previous Week's Selections: Trade S Budda Baker, EDGE Dayo Odeyingbo, DL Mason Graham)
Atlanta Falcons
2 of 32
This wasn't the prettiest win, as the Falcons defense let the Panthers hang around in the first half with the team clinging to a 22-17 lead in the locker room. But Atlanta managed to lock it down and got the running game going.
Running backs Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier led the way, as the former had 15 carries for 95 yards and two touchdowns while the latter had 18 rushes, 105 yards and a score, while Carolina only managed three points in the second half.
That puts Atlanta at 4-2 and keeps it at the top of the NFC South standings after earning the tiebreaker over Tampa Bay (4-2) two weeks ago.
Biggest Weaknesses:
- Center
- Linebacker
- Edge Rusher
- Left Guard
- Defensive Tackle (not named Grady Jarrett)
Add Now: Trade for EDGE Azeez Ojulari, New York Giants
Despite trading for Matthew Judon in August, the Falcons' pass rush has struggled this season, as they ranked dead last with six sacks heading into this past weekend. Meanwhile, Ojulari was featured in B/R's NFL Trade Block Big Board column this week and tabbed as a good fit for the club.
"The 2021 second-round pick had eight sacks as a rookie and another 5.5 sacks in his second season. It's not outlandish to think he could replicate that production with a different team," B/R's Kristopher Knox wrote.
"...The Atlanta Falcons would also be smart to take a look at Ojulari. Atlanta moved to 3-2 on Thursday but continues to struggle with sack production."
2025 Free Agency: OL Liam Eichenberg, Miami Dolphins
With only about $11.6 million of projected cap space this offseason, per Over The Cap, it's hard to project any big-name targets landing in Atlanta during free agency at this stage. But the team will likely need some interior offensive line help since Drew Dalman's contract is about to expire and Matthew Bergeron's career has gotten off to a slow start.
That makes Eichenberg a potential cost-effective target for the organization. He's been a solid player so far in 2024 and has experience playing every offensive line position to at least be a solid backup option.
2025 NFL Draft: EDGE Abdul Carter, Penn State
As mentioned above, the Falcons' pass rush has been sub-par to begin the campaign. While a healthy Bralen Trice could help solve that problem moving forward, the defense has several impending free agents at edge defender this offseason in Matthew Judon, Lorenzo Carter and James Smith-Williams.
So, it wouldn't be a bad idea to take a flier on the Penn State product. "Carter is an elite athlete, which gives him a high ceiling as a pass-rusher at the next level," the Nittany Lion's scouting report says.
"His get-off is very impressive as he explodes off the line of scrimmage and can win with speed around the edge when times up the snap. Also, he's shown a decent dip-rip move and the potential to develop a stick move as an inside counter with his movement skills."
(Previous Week's Selections: LB Deion Jones, S Jordan Fuller, CB Jabbar Muhammad)
Baltimore Ravens
3 of 32
The Washington Commanders have spent the first six weeks of the season proving they are a legitimate playoff team in the NFC. The Ravens utilized their matchup with the upstart Commanders to remind everyone they are to be taken seriously as well. Lamar Jackson attacked the Commanders defense with ruthless efficiency, and Zay Flowers wrecked the secondary with nine receptions for 132 yards.
It's just another example that the Ravens offense can win in multiple ways. Derrick Henry continued rolling with 132 yards on the ground, and Baltimore was able to take advantage of the extra effort and focus he draws from opposing teams.
Biggest Weaknesses:
- Interior Offensive Line
- Wide Receiver
- Offensive Tackle
- Edge-Rusher
Add Now: Trade for CB Emmanuel Forbes, Washington Commanders
The Ravens are off to a good start in the AFC, but they are having to fight through some injury woes in the secondary. Marlon Humphrey is beat up, while Jalyn Armour-Davis and Trayvon Mullen are both on injured reserve. Nate Wiggins and T.J. Tampa are getting a chance to show what they can do, but the Ravens may want to make a move.
An interesting possiblity would be targeting Commanders cornerback Emmanuel Forbes. The 2023 first-round pick struggled as a rookie and is getting very little run with Dan Quinn taking over as the team's head coach. Perhaps a change of scenery could be best for all parties involved.
2025 Free Agency: WR Stefon Diggs, Houston Texans
The Houston Texans wiped out the final three years of Stefon Diggs' contract when they traded for him this offseason. It made his run with the Texans a one-year trial period, and it might not go further than that after they extended Nico Collins.
If the former Maryland standout hits the open market, then he could be a fun fit in Baltimore. The team has an emerging star at tight end in Isaiah Likely, and Zay Flowers is an electric underneath receiver. Diggs could fit in as the vertical outside receiver.
2025 NFL Draft: OT Josh Simmons, Ohio State
The Ravens have been a top offense with Lamar Jackson at quarterback because of Jackson's ability combined with strong offensive line play. There were some growing pains early in this season, but the front five continues to improve and jell.
Getting ahead of the need to replace Ronnie Stanley could be key to continuing that dominance. Stanley is set to become a free agent this offseason, and he's 30 years old, so his next contract is likely to be on the shorter side.
Drafting Ohio State's Josh Simmons would give them an off-ramp as Stanley continues to age. He has the build to be a functional guard while he's waiting for his turn to take over at left tackle.
(Previous Week's Selections: WR Darius Slayton (trade), OT Jedrick Wills Jr., IOL Jonah Savaiinaea)
Buffalo Bills
4 of 32
The Bills reminded everyone that they are still the class of the AFC East with a 23-20 win over the New York Jets on Monday Night Football. Ray Davis ran for nearly 100 yards with James Cook out of the lineup and the Bills defense only allowed three points in the second half for a great team win.
We're only six weeks into the season and the Bills already feel like they have their division on lock. Beating the Jets on the road a week after they fired their head coach feels like the kind of win that tells the rest of the division better luck next year.
Biggest Weaknesses:
- Edge-Rusher
- Wide Receiver
- Right Tackle
- Safety
- Cornerback
Add Now: Trade for WR Davante Adams, Las Vegas Raiders
The list of teams who should actually be in pursuit of Davante Adams is probably smaller than most would think. He's an aging veteran receiver with a lot of money left on his contract and it isn't going to be cheap to get Vegas to trade him away. There's a reason the list is reportedly down to four teams, according to Tashan Reed of The Athletic.
Buffalo is one of them.It makes sense. The Bills are banged up at receiver and didn't have a true No. 1 in the mold of Adams since Stefon Diggs was traded away. The Bills still have a roster that can win right now despite key injuries and offseason losses. Adding Adams could push them over the top.
2025 Free Agency: EDGE/LB Jamin Davis, Washington Commanders
The tricky part of continuing to build a contender around a quarterback on a major contract is finding value. The Bills are going to have to make their free agency dollars stretch to put together a championship team. Targeting a younger player who might have some developmental potential could help.Jamin Davis has not lived up to the hype as a former first-round pick. The Commanders have begun experimenting with Davis playing on the edge and there may be some untapped potential there. The Bills happen to need depth at linebacker and on the edge. Sean McDermott might be able to get out of Davis than the Washington regimes have.
2025 NFL Draft: OTAireontae Ersery, Minnesota
A lot of the Bills' draft plans might revolve around whether they give Spencer Brown a new contract. Brown is in the final year of his contract and he has become more dependable but he still hasn't necessarily broken out beyond "average starter". If the Bills are OK with that, then they could re-sign him and check right tackle off their list of needs.
However, if they desire a little more at the position, they might turn to the draft. Aireontae Ersery is a powerful, long blocker at 6'6", 330 pounds. If the Bills want to reset the rookie contract clock at the position, taking Ersery wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.
(Previous Week's Selections: WR Amari Cooper (trade), S Jason Pinnock, EDGE Dani Dennis-Sutton)
Carolina Panthers
5 of 32
Since winning their first game of the season three weeks ago, the Carolina Panthers have been outscored 108-54.
This past Sunday's defeat to the division-leading Atlanta Falcons kind of highlighted just how far off Carolina is competing in the NFC South, as Atlanta didn't even have its "A-game" and still won by three possessions. It's looking like it will be a long few months for the Panthers as the team continues to build for the future.
Biggest Weaknesses:
- Quarterback
- Tight End
- Edge-Rusher
- Safety
- Defensive Tackle
Add Now: OT Tyre Phillips
Taylor Moton missed Sunday's game with a triceps injury and is considered week-to-week moving forward, per Anthony Rizzuti of Panthers Wire. Also, Ikem Ekwonu popped up on this past week's injury report, so the Panthers are dealing with some injuries at offensive tackle.
The club should use this as an opportunity to bring in a young offensive lineman like Phillips and see what he can do. The 27-year-old has primarily lined up at right tackle but has experience on the left side as well as at guard, and who knows, maybe he can be part of the team's long-term plans.
2025 Free Agency: TE Juwan Johnson, New Orleans Saints
Carolina's current tight end group is underwhelming and Ian Thomas and Tommy Tremble are impending free agents. So, the front office will likely be looking to address the position in the offseason and they could steal a quality player from a division rival.
Johnson may not put up a ton of yards with only 1,144 career yards in five seasons heading into this past Sunday, but he does what one would expect from a tight end; move the chains and put points on the board. He's logged 16 touchdowns and 66 first downs on 105 career catches, per Pro Football Reference.
2025 NFL Draft: WR Tetairoa McMillan, Arizona
Whether it's Bryce Young again or someone else, whoever the Panthers' quarterback is moving forward will need another wide receiver to throw the ball to. Diontae Johnson is on a contract year and Adam Thielen is getting up there in age, so using a top pick on the wideout from Arizona shouldn't be off the table.
"McMillan is a fantastic receiving threat who brings a ton to the table," B/R's offensive skill positions scout Damian Parson said via the Wildcat's scouting report.
"NFL offensive coordinators will appreciate his versatility and the litany of ways he can win in their offensive structure. He projects as a number one wide receiver who you pepper with a high amount of targets per game."
(Previous Week's Selections: Trade RB Miles Sanders, DT Alim McNeill, QB Cam Ward)
Chicago Bears
6 of 32
Have the Chicago Bears found their stride?
Sunday's win in London over Jacksonville makes it three in a row for Chicago, as the team improved to 4-2 on the season. More importantly, this is back-to-back 35-point outings for Caleb Williams and the offense, with over 600 total yards from scrimmage and six touchdowns over the last two games.
Biggest Weaknesses:
- Center
- Offensive Tackle depth
- Right Guard
- Quarterback
- Linebacker
Add Now: No one
As mentioned last week, offensive continuity is one of the Bears' biggest issues in the early stages of the season, and adding another player won't solve that problem. Plus, it looked like the offense might have turned the page in Week 5 against the Panthers. So, there's no need to rock the boat, and it's probably best to keep things status quo for now.
2025 Free Agency: C Connor Williams, Seattle Seahawks
Center is a current weakness in Chicago, and Coleman Shelton along with backup Doug Kramer are impending free agents. So, the position will likely be addressed in the offseason, and Williams will be an interesting option to explore.
The 27-year-old does have a bad injury history, including ending last season with a torn ACL, which is a big reason why he didn't sign in Seattle until August. But Williams has been a good player when on the field over the last several years.
He's been a solid run-blocker for the Seahawks this season with a 71.7 grade from Pro Football Focus in that department heading into this past weekend.
2025 NFL Draft: WR Emeka Egbuka, Ohio State
Despite having a breakout performance on Sunday, Keenan Allen is an impending free agent and the Bears hadn't gotten much from him unit this past week's performance. So, Ryan Poles might explore this year's wide receiver class in the draft, and the Buckeye would be a solid replacement for the veteran.
"Egbuka is a primary slot receiver with the versatility to kick outside to Z," B/R's offensive skill positions scout Damian Parson said. "Route running and getting open is his A-trait. Egbuka thrives as a chain mover in the quick passing game and will add a potential security blanket to an NFL offense."
(Previous Week's Selections: CB Charvarius Ward, S Malachi Moore)
Cincinnati Bengals
7 of 32
It's a little concerning that we haven't seen the Bengals offense and defense play a good game on the same day yet. This time, it was the defenses' turn to carry the day with a 17-7 win over the New York Giants on Sunday Night Football. It might be frustrating that the Giants mostly shut the offense down, but it was good for the Bengals to show they can win an ugly one with their defense.
There's a lot of work to be done at 2-4, but they have the talent to go on a run.
Biggest Weaknesses:
- Cornerback
- Interior Defensive Line
- Edge-Rusher
- Linebacker
- Interior Offensive Line
Add Now: Trade for CB Jonathan Jones, New England Patriots
The Bengals' only hope to turn things around and contend for the playoffs this season is to find a fix on defense. There are some things they can do schematically, but there might just have to be better personnel. Tre'Davious White has had a rough go of it with the Rams, but so has Cam Taylor-Britt. The 25-year-old is giving up a 126.1 passer rating when targeted.
If the Patriots are willing to part with Jonathan Jones, the Bengals should be among the teams to call. The 29-year-old veteran is on an expiring contract for a team that is clearly rebuilding and needs help for Drake Maye.
2025 Free Agency: EDGE Chase Young, New Orleans Saints
The Bengals defense is in dire need of new blood. The once-feared group led by Lou Anurumo is in a position where they just don't have many players that move the needle. Trey Hendrickson had three sacks coming into this week's game, and there just isn't much depth behind him.
Chase Young could be one of the most talented edge-rushers in the free-agent class. Bringing the former Buckeye back to Ohio could be a fun story that would also help the Bengals with an important need that must be addressed.
2025 NFL Draft: DT Mason Graham, Michigan
B/R's Brent Sobleski made the case for Michigan defensive tackle Mason Graham to go with the No. 1 overall pick in next spring's draft. In a class with a questionable crop of quarterbacks and no clear-cut answer, Graham could vault to the top of the draft board.
If he doesn't, the Bengals should take a good, long look. They have blue-chip players on the offensive side of the ball but don't necessarily have star power on defense. Graham's well-rounded game and elite athleticism could make him a disruptive interior defender who could change the Bengals' struggling defense.
(Previous Week's Selections: CB Marcus Peters, WR K.J. Osborn, EDGE Mykel Williams)
Cleveland Browns
8 of 32
It was a familiar story for the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. The 20-16 loss featured an offense that meandered through the first half of the game before Deshaun Watson put together a decent second half. Cleveland was also held back by key penalties, including seven on the offense for 55 yards.
It's getting harder and harder not to feel like big changes might be needed for the Browns to right the ship.
Biggest Weaknesses:
- Quarterback
- Wide Receiver
- Left Tackle
- Linebacker
- Cornerback
Add Now: EDGE Myjai Sanders
The Browns defense has taken a step back this season, and a lack of depth on the edges is one of the factors that has made them a less effective unit. Myles Garrett has been a dominant force, but Za'Darius Smith has been quiet and injuries have eaten at the depth behind him.
Cleveland isn't doing well enough to justify trading for another player, and the free-agent market is relatively bare. Myjai Sanders is one of the few intriguing pass-rushers available. The former third-round pick has largely disappointed, but he's still 26 years old and could do better in a role where he isn't asked to do anything other than get after the quarterback.
2025 Free Agency: LB Nick Bolton, Kansas City Chiefs
Jim Schwartz's defense thrives when he has elite talent in the front seven. The defensive coordinator isn't a heavy blitzer and the Browns were dominant last season when they had good linebacker play led by Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah. They've already worked to extend his contract, but they could be looking for reinforcements to the second level of the defense.
Bolton has earned a good reputation as an enforcer in the middle of the Chiefs defense. They have a lot of players to pay so it's possible that he becomes available this offseason.
2025 NFL Draft: QB Cam Ward, Miami
There are very few good ways forward for the Browns when it comes to Deshaun Watson's contract. The quarterback hasn't been good, and it's becoming clear that he is not going to turn things around in Cleveland. However, his contract makes it nearly impossible to move on from him.
One thing the Browns could do is to make Watson the most expensive backup quarterback in NFL history or release him with a post-June 1 designation next season. Either way, the Browns would need a starting quarterback on a rookie contract. Taking one of the top signal-callers in the draft would allow them to make that kind of decision and there's a lot to like about Cam Ward.
"Cam Ward is among the most gifted throwers in the NFL draft class. The combination of arm talent, mobility/athleticism, and accuracy is growing among NFL scouts," Dame Parson noted in his scouting report of Ward.
(Previous Week's Selections: OL Brady Christensen(trade), IOL Teven Jenkins, LB Lander Barton)
Dallas Cowboys
9 of 32
We're six games into the season, and it's hard to hard to gauge what to make of the Dallas Cowboys.
Dallas came into the weekend on a two-game win streak and with a chance to gain some ground in the division standings. However, an old-fashioned whooping at the hands of the Lions pushes the Cowboys to an even .500 record and keeps them in third place in the NFC East.
Biggest Weaknesses:
- Left Tackle
- Defensive End
- Nose Tackle
- Cornerback
- Safety
Add Now: OT Charles Leno Jr.
A defensive end was considered here given the news that backup-turned-starter Marshawn Kneeland tore his meniscus against the Steelers, furthering the Cowboys' issues at the position. However, Micah Parsons should be returning soon, and the team has Carl Lawson on the practice squad just in case.
Meanwhile, Tyler Guyton also suffered an injury in Week 5, and Guyton has struggled to begin his career, getting benched this past weekend. So, the front office should explore adding a veteran like Leno who has a strong track record in pass protection throughout his career.
2025 Free Agency: S Jordan Fuller, Carolina Panthers
Safety is a current weakness in Dallas, and the club has a few impending free agents at the position this offseason, meaning the front office will at least be looking to add some depth to the position in the spring.
Fuller would be a good option, as he's been a solid all-around player throughout his career. For example, he had 94 total tackles, three interceptions, eight passes defended and three forced fumbles for the Rams in 2023. Plus, it's a bonus that he doesn't even turn 27 until March.
2025 NFL Draft: IOL Donovan Jackson, Ohio State
With Zack Martin about to be a 34-year-old free agent, Jerry Jones might want to explore this year's draft class at guard. Even if Martin is re-signed, it couldn't hurt to add some youth to the position, and the Buckeye would be a solid replacement option.
"Jackson missed the first couple games of the year with a hamstring injury, but has since returned largely to his 2023 form with some notable improvements (albeit against subpar competition so far)," B/R's offensive line scout Brandon Thorn said.
"The primary jump on film has been in his pass sets and ability to get into his anchor more efficiently which has bolstered his play strength as a pass protector, cutting down on the quick losses in the process."
"As Ohio State gets deeper into conference play and the competition level ramps up it will be closely monitored whether or not Jackson can continue to sustain blocks at the same level."
(Previous Week's Selections: S Budda Baker, G Will Hernandez, RB Quinshon Judkins)
Denver Broncos
10 of 32
The story of the Denver Broncos' 2024 season is starting to come into focus. The Broncos have enough talent and a good enough defense to win some games. But there are also going to be weeks like Week 6 where they just don't do enough to give the offense the margin for error it needs.
The offense was ugly and out of sorts for three quarters before exploding for 16 points in the fourth. Quarterback Bo Nix provided a spark on the ground with 61 yards on six carries. The rollercoaster performance seems to be a harbinger of what this season has to offer for Denver—a lot of ups and downs.
Biggest Weaknesses:
- Edge-Rusher
- Center
- Running Back
- Wide Receiver
- Safety
Add Now: LB Devin White
Denver's defense has allowed the Broncos to remain competitive even with an offense that has struggled at times with rookie Bo Nix under center. Sustaining that level of defense has become more difficult with injuries at the linebacker position. Drew Sanders went on the PUP list before the season started, and Alex Singleton was added to the injured reserve list.
The Eagles recently released Devin White. He didn't make their active roster in any of their games this season, but he's a former Pro Bowler whose athleticism has at least given him a chance to make some splash plays.
2025 Free Agency: DL Alim McNeill, Detroit Lions
The Broncos are going to have to refigure some things on the defensive line next season. Baron Browning and Jonathan Cooper are both set to be free agents along with D.J. Jones on the interior. If they lose either Browning or Cooper, it might force John Franklin-Myers to play more on the outside and Jones is going to be 30 years old next season.
Signing Alim McNeill away from the Detroit Lions would allow them to continue playing defense at a high level while getting younger at the position. McNeill has become an integral part of the Lions' defensive front and should command a significant contract if he hits the market.
2025 NFL Draft: TE Harold Fannin Jr., Bowling Green
As the Broncos look to add weapons around Nix, it might be time to address the tight end position this offseason. Former third-round pick Greg Dulcich hasn't worked out. Unfortunately, injuries have kept him off the field, and he hasn't done much when on the field. Harold Fannin Jr. is coming along as one of the most promising tight end prospects in the class.
Here's Dame Parson with an interesting pro-player comparison for Fannin:
"Harold Fannin Jr. is an athletic pass-catcher who can align in multiple spots in the offensive formation. His game resembles current Baltimore Ravens TE Isaiah Likely. Fannin is strong and physical after the catch. He offers a TE capable of the offensive passing game funneled through at the next level."
(Previous Week's Selections: OT Blake Hance, IOL Connor Williams, RB Ashton Jeanty)
Detroit Lions
11 of 32
The Detroit Lions asserted their dominance over the Cowboys this weekend with a 47-9 victory. That pushes the Lions to 4-1 and keeps them in second place behind the Vikings—who were on a bye this week—for the division lead.
However, the primary concern for the Lions moving forward is the health of Aidan Hutchinson, who left Sunday's contest with a fractured tibia.
Biggest Weaknesses:
- Edge-Rusher
- Cornerback
- Offensive Line depth
- Wide Receiver depth
Add Now: Trade for EDGE Haason Reddick, New York Jets
This has been brought up before, as the Lions could have used a second edge-rusher before Hutchinson's injury. Now that the team will be without its best defensive end for the rest of the season, it makes even more sense to strike a deal for Reddick, who was ranked as the No. 1 player on B/R's NFL Trade Block Big Board.
The former Eagle and current Jet is looking for a new contract, but Detroit has nearly $30 million of cap space to give him a new deal, according to Over The Cap.
2025 Free Agency: DT Jarran Reed, Seattle Seahawks
Alim McNeill and Levi Onwuzurike are impending free agents, and if for some reason neither is retained by Brad Holmes, Holmes will have to find a new defensive tackle.
Reed will be 32 years old in December so he won't have a long tenure with the Lions, but he can be a solid contributor for a year or two to help make a Super Bowl run. Heading into this weekend, the veteran had two sacks and 13 pressures on 124 pass-rush snaps, per Pro Football Focus.
2025 NFL Draft: WR Nic Anderson, Oklahoma
As mentioned last week, the Lions have gotten good contributions from Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams this season but could use a third wideout moving forward. Plus, barring the organization picking up Williams' fifth-year option, his contract only runs through the 2025 campaign.
So, spending a mid-round pick on someone like the Oklahoma product should be on the table. "Anderson is a big, athletic, and fluid-moving wide receiver," B/R's offensive skill positions scout Damian Parson said. "He runs and snaps off his routes well to create initial separation.
"Anderson consistently has the speed to threaten defenses deep down the field. He is battling a leg injury that has kept him out of the Oklahoma offense all season. When healthy, Anderson is the best receiver on the Sooners' offense, with the build and athleticism combination to be a productive X-receiver in the NFL."
(Previous Week's Selections: EDGE Haason Reddick, WR DeAndre Hopkins, EDGE Mykel Williams)
Green Bay Packers
12 of 32
It seems like the Green Bay Packers, especially Jordan Love, have found their grove over the past few weeks.
Green Bay's 34-13 win over Arizona makes it two in a row for the club, while Love looked sharp and threw for four touchdown passes. Wide receiver Romeo Doubs was on the receiving end of two of those scores to turn in his best game of the season.
That puts the Packers at 4-2 to keep pace in the NFC North, the most competitive division in the league so far.
Biggest Weaknesses:
- Center
- Defensive Tackle
- 2nd Cornerback
- Linebacker
- 2nd Safety
Add Now: CB Patrick Peterson
Eric Stokes has been struggling this season. Pro Football Focus had Stokes on the hook for 20 completions on 28 targets (71.4 completion percentage) and a 118.9 passer rating when targeted for a 50.5 coverage grade through Week 5.
While Peterson is past his prime, he played well for the Steelers last season by recording a couple of interceptions and 11 passes defended. The 34-year-old stated at the beginning of the season on NFL Network's 'The Insiders' that he'd be willing to play for a contender, which the Packers are.
2025 Free Agency: C Ryan Kelly, Indianapolis Colts
Josh Myers has continued to be below-average this season and his contract is about to expire. In other words, it's unlikely that Myers will be back as the starting center in Green Bay next fall.
Meanwhile, Kelly is about to hit the open market and is still playing at a high level. An injury caused him to miss Weeks 4 and 5, but the nine-year veteran had given up just three pressures and earned a respectable 68.2 run-blocking grade from Pro Football Focus in the Colts' first three games of the campaign.
2025 NFL Draft: DL Deone Walker, Kentucky
The Packers' defensive tackles as a whole haven't been playing well this season, and Brian Gutekunst might want to consider addressing the position in the draft. The Kentucky product does struggle with consistency and conditioning, but he's flashed some physically dominant reps when he has a full tank of gas.
"With his combination of upper-body strength and size, Walker can win at the point of attack to be hard to move as a run defender against one-on-one blocks and can collapse the pocket when bull rushing," the Wildcat's scouting report says.
"He's also flashed an impressive swim move and shown the ability to use his quickness to win as a pass-rusher and defeat blocks against the run."
(Previous Week's Selections: DT Mike Purcell, CB Brandon Stephens, OL Emery Jones)
Houston Texans
13 of 32
DeMeco Ryans told reporters before the game that it would take "everybody" to make up for the loss of Nico Collins. The Texans' leading receiver was put on injured reserve last week. It looked like "everybody" showed up to do the job against the Patriots.
The Texans put up 41 points in a game Houston ran for 6.9 yards per carry and Stefon Diggs came through with six catches for 77 yards and a touchdown.
Granted this came against the Patriots and the defense forced four turnovers, but there's a lot to love about how this Texans team is playing.
Biggest Weaknesses:
- Interior Defensive Line
- Cornerback
- Interior Offensive Line
- Running Back
- Safety
Add Now: CB Marcus Peters
The Texans are being forced to weather multiple injuries in the secondary. Kamari Lassiter is expected to miss multiple weeks, and Jimmie Ward was out of the lineup this week. That's on top of Jeff Okudah already staying on the injured reserve list.
There aren't a ton of great options on the free-agent market, and there are only so many players who might be available for trade. A simple solution might be giving Marcus Peters a call to see if the veteran still has any juice left. He made 12 starts for the Raiders last season.
2025 Free Agency: S Talanoa Hufanga, San Francisco 49ers
Jimmie Ward is 33 years old and carries a cap hit that doesn't guarantee he'll be on the roster next season. The Texans seem to have found a starting safety in Calen Bullock, and Jalen Pitre can play in the slot. Bringing in one more safety would ensure they don't have to figure out anyone else's role next season.
Talanoa Hufanga is dealing with a wrist injury that has him out of the lineup for the next month, but he's already proven he's one of the better young safeties in the game. He could be the missing piece for an emerging secondary.
2025 NFL Draft: IOL Tyler Booker, Alabama
Kenyon Green is running out of opportunities to show that he can be the long-term starter at left guard. Shaq Mason is 31 years old and not looking as good as he once was. It's safe to say that the Texans should be looking to build their interior line options next offseason.
Tyler Booker should be on their radar in that regard. The 6'5", 352-pounder is a tone-setter up front. His play strength and physicality would give them a chance to reset one of those guard positions and allow them to be more diverse in the run game.
(Previous Week's Selections: OL Riley Reiff, WR Darius Slayton, DT Tyleik Williams)
Indianapolis Colts
14 of 32
The Colts continue to play one-score games every week. This time, it was a 20-17 victory without Anthony Richardson that will keep the Colts in the tier of AFC teams who should be battling for a wild-card spot down the stretch. Richardson was a late scratch for the week with an oblique injury. Fortunately, Joe Flacco was able to execute the game plan well enough to lead the Colts to a win.
Biggest Weaknesses:
- Interior Defensive Line
- Cornerback
- Safety
- Tight End
- Edge-Rusher
Add Now: IOL Nate Davis, Chicago Bears
The Colts were dealt a major blow when they lost Will Fries for the foreseeable future with a broken leg. The young guard was one of their best offensive linemen, and they either have to reshuffle the line or replace him with undrafted free agent Dalton Tucker.
Elsewhere, Nate Davis was just benched in Chicago. The Bears might be willing to part with the veteran after he failed to live up to his contract. It's not the most ideal scenario for the Colts, but Davis is at least an experienced veteran with a decent baseline of production.
2025 Free Agency: QB Mac Jones, Jacksonville Jaguars
It has become clear that the backup quarterback position is going to be critical for the Colts as long as they continue the Anthony Richardson experiment. Richardson has tantilizing upside, but he has not been able to stay on the field consistently. Joe Flacco has been a fine backup for the team this season, but they may want to look to a younger solution next offseason.
Mac Jones' time in New England established a reputation as a draft bust, but he looked much more confident in preseason action with the Jaguars this offseason. That might lead the Colts to kick the tires on the 26-year-old as someone who could operate an RPO-heavy offense if Richardson's injury woes continue.
2025 NFL Draft: TE Tyler Warren, Penn State
Tyler Warren's name became a lot more well-known after Saturday's college football action. The 6'6", 261-pound tight end torched the USC Trojans defense for 17 receptions and 224 yards in the Nittany Lions' 33-30 win. He showcased the kind of receiving threat he can be as a tough yards-after-the-catch player.
The Colts have taken plenty of swings on athletic projects at tight end. Warren is a different player than previous targets at the position but he could stick.
(Previous Week's Selections: EDGE Azeez Ojulari (trade), TE Tyler Conklin, CB Tacario Davis)
Jacksonville Jaguars
15 of 32
Robert Saleh went to London last week and didn't come back with a job. Doug Pederson might be checking his phone nervously after Jacksonville suffered a miserable loss in England on Sunday, serving as a punching bag for the Bears in a 35-16 loss.
The offense was disjointed and dropped multiple potential touchdowns. The defense provided a great opportunity for rookie Caleb Williams to build his confidence as he threw four touchdown passes. It was what you'd come to expect from a team that is now 1-5.
The Jaguars will stay in the United Kingdom for their game against the New England Patriots next week, but will Pederson return to the States as their coach?
Biggest Weaknesses:
- Cornerback
- Edge-Rusher
- Wide Receiver
- Safety
- Tight End
Add Now: Trade for S Budda Baker, Arizona Cardinals
It's hard to justify trading for a player with as much notoriety as Budda Baker with a 1-5 record, but the reality is that Pederson is probably coaching for his job and general manager Trent Baalke's seat has to be hot, too. The Jaguars secondary was a major problem Sunday, with Williams carving them up for four touchdowns.
Baker is in the final year of his contract with the Cardinals and could still be a cornerstone for the Jags defense for a few seasons. He's 29, but safeties tend to age well and Baker is playing at a high level for the Cards.
2025 Free Agency: DT Osa Odighizuwa, Dallas Cowboys
The Jaguars started a youth movement on the interior of the defensive line by drafting Maason Smith and Jordan Jefferson. Roy Robertson-Harris is due to be a free agent and DaVon Hamilton hasn't played all that well. They should be looking to add more new blood to the position group this offseason.
Osa Odighizuwa will be an overlooked free agent. He doesn't have gaudy sack stats, but he's a decent penetrating 3-technique who has been able to carve out a significant role in the Cowboys defense.
2025 NFL Draft: CB/WR Travis Hunter, Colorado
The more Jacksonville keeps losing, the more they can start realistically believing they will be in the running for the top talents in this draft. There really aren't a lot of quarterbacks that teams would be interested in trading up for at this point, so the value of a top-three pick would be taking one of the best overall players.
There's a good case to be made that Hunter is the best player in the class. He was ranked as the No. 1 overall prospect on Bleacher Report's initial big board. He could either be the elite cornerback that makes Tyson Campbell one of the best No. 2 corners in the game or the alpha receiver that makes Brian Thomas Jr. and Gabe Davis even better.
(Previous Week's Selections: S Jayron Kearse, OT Ronnie Stanley, OT Josh Conerly Jr.)
Kansas City Chiefs
16 of 32
The bye week came at a fortunate time for the Kansas City Chiefs. A Monday Night Football win over the New Orleans Saints in Week 5 brought their record to 5-0, but they were doing a lot of scrambling to replace injured players. Kareem Hunt and JuJu Smith-Schuster were both forced to turn back time and turn in strong performances.
The Chiefs have most likely lost Rashee Rice for the season, and Isiah Pacheco is still on injured reserve. Kansas City could use the additional week to either swing a move for a skill player or regroup as an offense and figure out the plan moving forward.
Biggest Weaknesses:
- Wide Receiver
- Cornerback
- Safety
- Interior Defensive Line
- Left Tackle
Add Now: Trade for WR DeAndre Hopkins, Tennessee Titans
The Chiefs reportedly wanted DeAndre Hopkins two years ago when he was a free agent and ultimately signed with the Titans. Looking back, both parties might have regrets a deal didn't happen. Hopkins hasn't done much winning in Tennesseee and the Chiefs are in dire need of receivers.
It's hard to see many AFC teams wanting to help the Chiefs in their bid for a third consecutive championship, but it also doesn't make much sense for the Titans to hang on to the aging Hopkins when he has an expiring contract and they are rebuilding.
2025 Free Agency: WR Diontae Johnson, Carolina Panthers
Sticking with the idea of addressing the team's need at receiver, the Chiefs could take another stab at the problem through free agency. Marquise "Hollywood" Brown was a great addition on paper. Unfortunately, we won't see what that would have looked like this year.
After watching JuJu Smith-Schuster quickly look like a productive receiver after going back to Kansas City, it's fair to wonder if Diontae Johnson could see a similar boost. The former Steeler is still producing in Carolina, but dropping him in the Chiefs offense could take his production even further.
2025 NFL Draft: OT Emery Jones Jr., LSU
The Chiefs have taken a tackle in each of the past two drafts. However, they've oscillated between Kingsley Suamataia and Wanya Morris at left tackle this season. There are some questions up front. Trey Smith is a pending free agent next offseason, and Joe Thuney isn't getting any younger.
So while it might seem superfluous to draft a tackle for a third consecutive season, it could make sense in the long term. The Chiefs could have three high-potential young linemen to fill a few emerging needs.
(Previous Week's Selections: WR Robert Woods (trade), S Camryn Bynum, WR Elic Ayomanor)
Las Vegas Raiders
17 of 32
The Raiders might have changed quarterbacks, but the result was still the same. The Raiders showed little fight in a 32-13 loss. Granted, there are major injuries at play. Malcolm Koonce and Christian Wilkins were supposed to be integral parts of one of the best defensive fronts in the league and are both out with long-term injuries. Davante Adams was still out with an injury.
However, the Raiders defense still gave up 5.2 yards per carry to a Steelers team that is still figuring itself out offensively. There are things to figure out and the injuries don't help, but Antonio Pierce has to find a way to rally the team.
Biggest Weaknesses:
- Quarterback
- Wide Receiver
- Edge-Rusher
- Offensive Tackle
- Running Back
Add Now: Trade for RB Khalil Herbert, Chicago Bears
The Raiders' run game has been atrocious for most of the season. With Aidan O'Connell at quarterback and Adams' future with the organization in the air, a new focus on running the ball well might be beneficial.
It's tough to do that with the production they've got from Zamir White and Alexander Mattison this season. Trading for Khalil Herbert, who has averaged 4.8 yards per carry in his career, could inject some new energy into the backfield.
2025 Free Agency: QB Sam Darnold, Minnesota Vikings
The Raiders passed on drafting a quarterback this offseason after being the odd team out during an early run at the position. This year, the Raiders might draft earlier, but this draft class doesn't feature a lot of coveted passers. That could lead Vegas to skip out on taking a first-round signal-caller again.
If they want to go find a starter in free agency, then Sam Darnold is probably the best answer. Working with Kevin O'Connell has revived Darnold's career, and he's showing that he's capable of being a good NFL starter in the right context with the right coaching.
2025 NFL Draft: OT Cameron Williams, Texas
The Raiders have a lot of issues on offense right now. They have a lot of things to figure out, and that only becomes more true if they trade Adams. Regardless of who is playing quarterback next season, they could use a better answer at right tackle. Thayer Munford has had plenty of opportunities to come along, and they could still use an upgrade.
Williams is a mauling right tackle who probably needs to iron out some things in pass protection, but he has the overall skills to be an exciting right tackle prospect.
(Previous Week's Selections: WR Chase Claypool, CB Deommodore Lenoir, LB Sonny Styles)
Los Angeles Chargers
18 of 32
The bye week was very good to the Chargers. They were given time to heal up, which was key for a team that was without Justin Herbert, Rashawn Slater, Joey Bosa and Joe Alt at different points this year. Bosa still isn't back, but the rest of those players contributed to a 23-16 win over the Broncos.
Herbert was an especially big winner on the week. He's been handcuffed early in the season by Greg Roman's offensive system, but he was allowed to open it up against the Broncos with 237 yards on 34 pass attempts.
Biggest Weaknesses:
- Wide Receiver
- Cornerback
- Interior Defensive Line
- Interior Offensive Line
- Edge-Rusher
Add Now: Trade for CB Greg Newsome II, Cleveland Browns
The Chargers have developed short- and long-term needs for a cornerback. Asante Samuel Jr. just went on injured reserve and Kristian Fulton, who has had a career resurgence in Los Angeles, is on a one-year deal with an injury history.
Trading for Greg Newsome II would be a bold move ahead of the deadline, but it solves both the short- and long-term needs. Newsome is just 24 years old, and the Browns already have money tied up in Denzel Ward and Martin Emerson. That has led Newsome to be featured in the latest edition of the trade block big board from Kris Knox.
2025 Free Agency: EDGE Dayo Odeyingbo, Indianapolis Colts
Khalil Mack is 33 years old, and his contract expires after this season. He's still productive at this point, but the age cliff could be coming and the Chargers should be on the lookout for younger and cheaper solutions. Dayo Odeyingbo is an underrated edge-rusher who could also be on the market if the Colts don't extend his contract.
At 25 years old, he's a young free agent with decent production at a premium position. Those are the kinds of free agents worth targeting.
2025 NFL Draft: DL Walter Nolen, Ole Miss
You can see the shift in the Chargers philosophy under Jim Harbaugh, but general manager Joe Hortiz still has work to do to build the kind of roster that the coach wants. That means continuing to build the offensive and defensive lines. The Chargers patched their interior defensive line with free agents on one-year deals like Poona Ford and Teair Tart.
Drafting Walter Nolen would give them a talented interior defender with a high ceiling and the ability to be a starter for the majority of his rookie contract.
(Previous Week's Selections: NB Chandon Sullivan, IOL Will Hernandez, WR Isaiah Bond)
Los Angeles Rams
19 of 32
The Los Angeles Rams could have used the bye week several weeks ago, as the team has been decimated by injuries early in the season. But Los Angeles will undoubtedly be happy to take the time off now and heal up.
The good news is Cooper Kupp might be back for the team's next game, according to Greg Scholz of The Athletic. Granted, that isn't guaranteed, but it does sound like Kupp will return to the lineup soon.
Biggest Weaknesses:
- Center
- Cornerback
- Linebacker
- Wide Receiver
- Tight End
Add Now: LB Deion Jones
Christian Rozeboom and Troy Reeder have been struggling this season, making linebacker a weakness for the Rams. The defense also lacks experience at the position behind those two, so the front office should look into adding Jones as a veteran backup option in case Rozeboom and Reeder don't turn it around soon.
The 29-year-old who turns 30 next month isn't the player he used to be, but he can at least be a decent coverage backer if the team needs someone to fill in.
2025 Free Agency: WR Mike Williams, New York Jets
With Demarcus Robinson's, Tutu Atwell's and Tyler Johnson's contracts all set to expire, Los Angeles will likely be in the market for a wide receiver this offseason. Also, the club has learned how important depth is so far in 2024.
Williams has gotten off to a slow start with the Jets, hauling in just 10 catches for 145 yards through five games so far, but he can be productive when healthy. Signing him to a short-team deal would give the offense a strong receiving corps to help make one last Super Bowl push with Matthew Stafford under center.
2025 NFL Draft: TE Harold Fannin Jr., Bowling Green
Tyler Higbee is still recovering from the nasty knee injury he suffered in last season's playoff game, so he hasn't suited up yet this fall. Also, the 31-year-old is only signed through 2025, so Les Snead might want to consider drafting a tight end and the Bowling Green product is a good under-the-radar target.
"Entering the season, Fannin wasn't a household name," B/R's Damian Parson said. "Five weeks into the season and coming off three consecutive 100-yard receiving games, he's a top tight end prospect.
"Fannin dominated Penn State's and Texas A&M's defenses for a combined 336 yards receiving. His speed in the open field, combined with alignment versatility, is impressive.
"Fannin wins in multiple ways that translate to the NFL. He is not solely a receiving threat but also a willing and reliable run-blocker. Multiple NFL organizations should be excited to add his playmaking ability to their passing attack for the 2025 season."
(Previous Week's Selections: WR Darius Slayton, QB Zach Wilson, CB Tacario Davis)
Miami Dolphins
20 of 32
Few teams have needed a bye week as badly as the Miami Dolphins did this week. The 2024 season has quickly become a disaster. They are only 2-3, but it somehow feels worse than even the record would indicate.
Miami ranks near the bottom in nearly every offensive metric and can use the week off to get healthier, recuperate and figure out a plan for the offense. If they can do that, they might be able to eke out enough wins to be relevant if and when Tua Tagovailoa comes back this season.
Biggest Weaknesses:
- Quarterback
- Interior Offensive Line
- Interior Defensive Line
- Wide Receiver Depth
- Tight End
Add Now: EDGE Shaq Lawson
Tua Tagoaviloa's injury isn't the only thing that has derailed the Dolphins' season. They're also dealing with a rash of injuries on the edge that includes Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb. Phillips was lost for the season to a torn ACL in Week 4 and Bradley Chubb is still on the PUP list.
The Dolphins really shouldn't be giving up draft capital to compete this season. The injuries have given them a difficult road to hoe, but signing a veteran free agent who could help them put themselves in a position to complete.
2025 Free Agency: LB Jamien Sherwood, New York Jets
Anthony Walker Jr. and David Long Jr. are both set to be free agents this offseason. Long should potentially be brought back because he is playing well, but the Dolphins could bring in a younger third linebacker than Walker.
Jamien Sherwood is doing good things with the Jets. The emerging linebacker will be 25 years old when he hits the market next season. If the Jets aren't interested in giving him a market contract, then the Dolphins should be looking to sign him away from their division rival.
2025 NFL Draft: OT Will Campbell, LSU
The only silver lining in the disappointing start to the Dolphins season is that it might wind up giving the Dolphins a top-10 pick. When healthy, this roster is not a bottom-10 group, but the reality is they might be too deep into the injured reserve to turn things around.
If that's the case, the Dolphins would need to strongly consider drafting an offensive tackle who can bolster the offensive line. Protecting Tagovailoa is going to be a priority moving forward and Campbell is one of the best offensive linemen in the draft class.
(Previous Week's Selections: QB Russell Wilson (trade), IOL Will Fries, S Lathan Ransom)
Minnesota Vikings
21 of 32
If anyone says they had the Minnesota Vikings being 5-0 heading into the bye week with Sam Darnold at quarterback, they're lying. But here we are, as Minnesota has been arguably the best team in the NFL so far this season while Darnold is in the MVP conversation and Kevin O'Connell is the favorite to win Coach of the Year.
Biggest Weaknesses:
- Guard
- Cornerback
- Interior Pass Rush
- Tight End
Add Now: No one
While the Vikings aren't flawless, this is an "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" type of situation. Plus, internal help is on the way soon, as T.J. Hockenson and Dalton Risner are expected to return in the coming weeks.
2025 Free Agency: G Trey Smith, Kansas City Chiefs
Guard is a trouble spot on Minnesota's roster right now, as Risner is expected to replace Ed Ingram when the former comes off injured reserve. However, Risner is a free agent in the offseason, meaning the position will be one of the organization's biggest offseason needs.
Smith will arguably be the best guard available on the open market as he's been an excellent player during his four-year career. Through five games in 2024, the 25-year-old earned an 84.5 run-blocking grade from Pro Football Focus and had only surrendered 10 pressures with no sacks.
2025 NFL Draft: S Dante Trader Jr., Maryland
With Harrison Smith's and Camryn Bynum's contracts up this offseason, Kwesi Adofo-Mensah will likely be exploring this year's safety class in the draft. So, expect the Maryland product to be on the general manager's radar.
"Dante Trader Jr. is a versatile safety from Maryland who brings athleticism and strong run support to the field," B/R's defensive backs scout Cory Giddings said in the Terp's scouting report.
"Standing at 5'11", 202 pounds, Trader is known for his quick feet, versatility and physicality, making him a valuable asset in both the coverage and run games. His ability to read plays and react quickly positions him as a high-level backup with the potential to develop into an NFL starter."
(Previous Week's selections: G Gabe Jackson, S Jevon Holland, CB Mansoor Delane)
New England Patriots
22 of 32
Two things should be clear after the Patriots' 41-21 loss to the Houston Texans. The first is that Drake Maye has the tools to become a successful quarterback in the league. The second is that the Patriots were probably right to hold off on starting Maye.
Maye had some great moments in the start. He had 243 yards and three touchdowns with a 40-yard touchdown pass to Kayshon Boutte, and he tacked on another 38 yards rushing. However, he was also sacked four times, threw two interceptions and lost a fumble. The offensive line is one of the worst in the league thanks, in part, to injuries. Maye's development is going to be crucial, so the Patriots have to figure out how to protect him.
Biggest Weaknesses:
- Offensive Tackle
- Interior Offensive Line
- Edge Rusher
- Wide Receiver
- Interior Defensive Line
Add Now: IOL Ben Cleveland, Baltimore Ravens
The Patriots are hard up for help on the offensive line right now. The group was suspect to begin with, and the injuries have piled up. Maximizing their protection with Drake Maye starting at quarterback is going to be crucial.
Ben Cleveland hasn't been able to crack the lineup in Baltimore this season. But when he was on the field last season he has been a decent pass protector. He has an expiring contract, so the Ravens might be willing to part with him at a relatively cheap price.
2025 Free Agency: OT Cam Robinson, Jacksonville Jaguars
One of the more baffling decisions this offseason was how little the Patriots did to find answers at tackle. Signing Chukwuma Okorafor and using a third-round pick on Caedan Wallace came short on paper and the results haven't exceeded expectations. Wallace is worth continued investment. He could develop into a starter, but Okorafor has had plenty of opportunities to be a starter.
In fairness to the Patriots, finding a starter in free agency isn't easy. However, Cam Robinson has proven to be a capable tackle and he could be available if Jacksonville is included to move on from him.
2025 NFL Draft: CB Domani Jackson, Alabama
The Patriots have a lot to figure out on offense, but they used a lot of draft capital on that side of the ball last season. They needed to do that to give the unit some hope heading into the season. Now, they need to use at least a few of their earlier picks on defense to re-stock that side of the ball.
For instance, Jonathan Jones is 31 this season. Targeting a cornerback who could help replace him down the line would be a good idea. Cory Giddings sees some good things from the 6'1", 201-pounder.
The B/R scout noted that Jackson is a "technical player who plays well from press coverage, getting hands on early to disrupt timing. At times can give up too much separation out of transitions."
(Previous Week's Selections: OT Walker Little (trade), Edge Josh Sweat, WR Tetairoa McMillan)
New Orleans Saints
23 of 32
Spencer Rattler's NFL debut got off to a decent start, as he and the New Orleans Saints managed to score 27 points in the second quarter to hold a three-point halftime lead against Tampa Bay. However, New Orleans couldn't score outside of that lone frame, and the defense was torched for nearly 600 yards and over 50 points.
That puts the Saints at 2-4 and on a four-game losing streak. The optimism surrounding the team at the beginning of the campaign is completely gone.
Biggest Weaknesses:
- Center
- Offensive Tackle
- Defensive Tackle
- 2nd Safety
- Offensive Line depth
Add Now: OL Matt Feiler
The Saints' offensive line is beaten up with Eric McCoy on injured reserve and Lucas Patrick and Cesar Ruiz popping up on this week's injury report. So, it wouldn't be a bad idea to add a veteran interior offensive lineman to the roster.
Feiler would be a good option since he has seven years of experience and has lined up at both guard spots and at right tackle during his career.
2025 Free Agency: S Andre Cisco, Jacksonville Jaguars
Safety is a current weakness for New Orleans, and that's only going to get worse in the offseason since Will Harris is an impending free agent. The organization will likely be in the market for a defensive back this offseason, and Cisco is an intriguing option.
The 24-year-old, who turns 25 in March, was a ballhawk in 2022 and 2023 as he racked up seven interceptions and 15 passes defended in those two seasons combined. Granted, he is having a down year so far this fall, but that could drive his price tag down, which is good news for a club that is currently projected to begin free agency in the red for cap space.
2025 NFL Draft: OT Kelvin Banks, Texas
While Mickey Loomis spent a first-round pick on Taliese Fuaga last April, Ryan Ramczyk's future is uncertain and Fuaga is a natural right tackle. In other words, it's not out of the question for Loomis to address the trenches again with another high pick, and the Texas product should be on the general manager's radar.
"Overall, Banks is a skilled pass protector with good athletic ability who works effectively on combination blocks and can line up targets on the move but will fall off of blocks on longer developing plays and struggle to finish due to streaky sustain skills consistently," B/R's offensive line scout Brandon Thorn said in the Longhorn's scouting report.
(Previous Week's Selections: S Adrian Amos, G Laken Tomlinson, EDGE Nic Scourton)
New York Giants
24 of 32
It felt like this weekend was the make-or-break point in the New York Giants' season, as New York entered Sunday night with a chance to even out its record and pull within a game of tying Washington for the early NFC East lead.
However, the loss keeps the Giants at the bottom of the standings and could push the organization's focus to next year and beyond.
Biggest Weaknesses:
- Quarterback
- Cornerback
- Defensive Tackle
- Guard
- Tight End
Add Now: CB Rashad Fenton
The Giants need help at cornerback, but they're also not likely to be competing for a playoff spot this season. So, the organization should look into adding young players who can help in the long term.
Fenton, who is just 27 years old, had a good run with the Chiefs to begin his career before suffering a season-ending injury with the Cardinals last season. So, he could help fill an immediate need and potentially be a solution in the defensive backfield moving forward.
2025 Free Agency: CB Paulson Adebo, New Orleans Saints
Along the same lines, Adebo is a corner New York should pursue during free agency. He'll be 26 in July and had an excellent campaign in 2023, yielding a meager 69.9 passer rating when targeted to help earn an 80.5 coverage grade from Pro Football Focus.
Through five weeks of the current season, his mark in coverage has dipped to 61.4 but he's still giving up just a 68.0 passer rating.
2025 NFL Draft: WR Isaiah Bond, Texas
When Joe Schoen drafted Jalin Hyatt in the third round in 2023, the idea was Hyatt would be the offense's deep threat. However, through the team's first five games this fall, the wideout hadn't caught a pass and is losing snaps to Darius Slayton, who is an impending free agent.
So, Schoen should explore if the Texas product can be an upgrade over Hyatt and fill the role the Tennessee alum was supposed to. "Bond will add immediate speed and playmaking to an NFL offense," B/R's offensive skill positions scout Damian Parson said.
"His route running is improving to create natural separation. He has the speed to defeat angles on short run-after-catch situations. Bond's deep speed is the type to strike fear in defensive coordinators if given single coverage without a safety over the top.
(Previous Week's Selections: Trade EDGE Azeez Ojulari, G James Daniels, QB Cam Ward)
New York Jets
25 of 32
The Jets looked a little more competitive with interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich leading the team on the sideline. It wasn't enough to win a crucial Monday Night Football matchup against the Bills, though. Aaron Rodgers and company were picked off as they were trying to either tie or win the game with just under two minutes to go.
It's a devastating loss for a team that was trying to spark a run after firing Robert Saleh last week. They'll need to start winning games in a hurry if they are going to be a playoff team in 2024.
Biggest Weaknesses:
- Wide Receiver
- Safety
- Interior Defensive Line
- Tight End
- Edge-Rusher
Add Now: Trade for EDGE Arnold Ebiketie, Atlanta Falcons
What looked like a strength coming into the year has become a question mark for the Jets. With Haason Reddick still holding out and Jermaine Johnson going on injured reserve the Jets pass rush could use a shot in the arm.
Arnold Ebiketie has raw tools that made him a second-round pick, but he hasn't been able to command a larger role within the Falcons depth rotation. Perhaps a new coaching staff and situation could help both parties.
2025 Free Agency: WR Tee Higgins, Cincinnati Bengals
Signing Mike Williams had the potential to be a game-changer for the Jets offense. Giving Garrett Wilson a running mate who could threaten defenses downfield was a scary thought. Thus far, it hasn't worked out that way. Williams hasn't made an impact and the Jets don't have a trustworthy weapon outside of Garrett Wilson.
Signing Higgins wouldn't be cheap or easy, but it would solve the problem. Higgins is a legitimate downfield threat who can do everything the Jets were hoping Williams would.
2025 NFL Draft: DT Darrell Jackson Jr., Florida State
The defensive interior isn't the most pressing need because of Quinnen Williams, but the rest of their interior rotation is either older or playing on an expiring contract. They should be looking to target a younger defensive tackle in the draft who can become part of that rotation. Darrell Jackson Jr. isn't among the elite defensive tackles in the class, but he projects to be a useful player.
"At 6'5" and 330 pounds, Jackson has NFL size for a defensive tackle. He's also strong at the point of attack and has long arms to get extension on blocks and be a quality run defender," Matt Holder noted. "He is limited athletically and as a pass-rusher though, but the Seminole can definitely be a good two-down defender at the next level."
(Previous Week's Selections: WR DeAndre Hopkins (trade), DT Milton Williams, WR Emeka Egbuka)
Philadelphia Eagles
26 of 32
It wasn't pretty, but the Philadelphia Eagles managed to get the job done against Cleveland on Sunday, winning 20-16. A.J. Brown finally returned to the field, playing in his first game since the season opener, and announced to the world that he's back by hauling in six catches for 116 yards and a touchdown.
Combined with Washington's loss, Philadelphia is now only a half-game back for the division lead.
Biggest Weaknesses:
- 3rd Wide Receiver
- Linebacker
- Cornerback
- Safety
- Offensive Tackle depth
Add Now: LB Deion Jones
The Eagles could use some help at linebacker, especially now that the depth at the position is thinner with Devin White's release last Tuesday. So, adding a veteran like Jones should be on the table.
The 29-year-old who turns 30 next month isn't the player he used to be, but he can at least be a decent coverage backer if the team needs someone to fill in.
2025 Free Agency: G Brandon Scherff, Jacksonville Jaguars
Mekhi Becton has done a solid job of reviving his career while lining up at right guard in Philadelphia this season. However, Becton is only on a one-year deal which would leave the team with a need at the position if he leaves in free agency.
Scherff will be one of the most recognizable names among interior offensive linemen on the open market. While he might not be the player he used to be, the five-time Pro Bowler has been impressive in pass protection so far this season with just five pressures surrendered through the Jaguars' first five games, per Pro Football Focus.
2025 NFL Draft: S Lathan Ransom, Ohio State
Reed Blankenship has played well so far this season but C.J. Gardner-Johnson has not, making safety a current weakness for the Eagles. So, especially considering that Blankenship is only under contract through 2025, Howie Roseman should explore this year's draft class at the position, and the Buckeye is an intriguing prospect.
"Ransom is a physical, versatile safety with the ability to play at all three levels of the defense," B/R's defensive back scout Cory Giddings said.
"His downhill play style and ability to fill gaps make him an asset in the box, while his toughness and timing shine as a blitzer. Though he has above-average coverage skills, his heavy-footedness and tight hips limit him in space, especially in deeper coverage."

Pittsburgh Steelers
27 of 32
The Steelers offense has been a work in progress under new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith this season. Thus far, their Week 6 performance against the Las Vegas Raiders has looked the closest to what Smith is known for. The Steelers ran for 183 yards on 35 carries with Najee Harris topping 100 yards (106) on just 14 carries. Justin Fields did his part on the ground as well with 59 yards and two touchdowns.
If they continue to combine that approach with a solid defense, they will continue to be a hard out in an ultra-competitive division.
Biggest Weaknesses:
- Wide Receiver
- Cornerback
- Interior Defensive Line
- Running Back
- Quarterback
Add Now: EDGE Andre Carter, Minnesota Vikings Practice Squad
Injuries have taken a toll on the Steelers' depth along the defensive front. The defensive line and edge-rushers are one of the strongest groups on this team, and it's going to be hard for them to compete if they continue dealing with injuries. Both Nick Herbig and Alex Highsmith were unavailable on Sunday, and DeMarvin Leal went on injured reserve.
The options are few and far between at this point in the season. Someone like Andre Carter, a former undrafted free agent on the Vikings practice squad, could be worth a shot. He was the 11th-ranked edge prospect in the 2023 draft class on our big board and would be an interesting project for the Steelers.
2025 Free Agency: DT Levi Onwuzurike, Detroit Lions
One day, Cam Heyward is finally going to show his age. The 35-year-old continues to play at a high level, but Father Time is undefeated. The Steelers are also pinning a lot on Larry Ogunjobi on the interior as well. With Leal most likely out for the season with a neck injury, the future picture for the for defensive interior is somewhat dim.
Levi Onwuzurike would provide a boost. It has taken him a while to break through in Detroit, but he has earned an important role this season. He'll look to cash in during free agency and would be a good balance of talent and youth in the Steelers' system.
2025 NFL Draft: WR Emeka Egbuka, Ohio State
The Steelers really need a second option who can take pressure off George Pickens and take the passing game to the next level. Finding that player in free agency or through the trade market could be costly. Drafting a long-term answer could be the best route.
Emeka Egbuka profiles as an excellent No. 2 receiver. He's a consistent route-winner who seems to have a way of finding the soft spot in zone coverages. He's the kind of weapon who will become a quarterback favorite in no time.
(Previous Week's Selections: WR Davante Adams (trade), QB Justin Fields, CB Mansoor Delane)
San Francisco 49ers
28 of 32
This season hasn't exactly gotten off to a hot start for the San Francisco 49ers. The team has battled injuries and has just a middling 3-3 record. However, Thursday night's win in Seattle puts San Francisco in a tie for first place in the NFC West, and help is on the way as a few injured players should be returning in the coming weeks.
To a certain degree, that almost makes the 49ers an even bigger threat in the NFC, as they've managed to get to this point while battling injuries and off-the-field drama.
Biggest Weaknesses:
- Left Guard
- Defensive Tackle
- Center
- Offensive Line Depth
- Linebacker Depth
Add Now: RB Jerick McKinnon
Jordan Mason avoided a major injury but is still considered "day-to-day" after hurting his shoulder against the Seahawks. So, especially with Christian McCaffery still on injured reserve, it might make sense for the 49ers to add another veteran running back just in case Mason has to miss time.
McKinnon spent three years with the club from 2018 to 2020 and those didn't go well because of injuries, but he should have familiarity with the system. Plus, the 32-year-old can catch passes out of the backfield which is something the offense is missing with McCaffery sidelined.
2025 Free Agency: CB Mike Hughes, Atlanta Falcons
With Charvarius Ward, Isaac Yiadom and Deommodore Lenoir all projected to hit free agency this offseason, San Francisco is going to be looking for cornerbacks in the spring. Even if the club brings back one of those three players and rookie Renardo Green steps into a bigger role next season, the defense will still need at least one more contributor in the secondary.
Hughes would be a decent option that shouldn't cost too much money on the open market. He's been having a solid campaign in 2024, surrendering an 83.6 passer rating when targeted while earning a 69.2 coverage grade from Pro Football Focus heading into this past weekend.
2025 NFL Draft: OT Josh Conerly, Oregon
Trent Williams is only signed through 2026 and will be 37 years old this summer while Colton McKivitz's contract expires after next year. So, John Lynch might want to consider adding a developmental offensive tackle during the draft this April, and the Oregon product fits that description.
"Conerly is a former high school running back who has light feet and twitch in his movements but continues to be a work in progress in the play strength department," B/R's offensive line scout Brandon Thorn said.
"With a shaky anchor and ability to root his feet as a blocker, there are too many instances where he isn't able to sustain blocks, but the athletic traits and movement skills are worth keeping tabs on while the rest of his game develops."
(Previous Week's Selections: K Randy Bullock, RB Jaylen Warren, TE Harold Fannin Jr.)
Seattle Seahawks
29 of 32
After a hot 3-0 start, the following weeks couldn't have gone much worse for the Seattle Seahawks. Thursday night's loss to San Francisco makes it three losses in a row for Seattle as the team, especially the defense, has been plagued by injuries lately.
Luckily, the Seahawks have some extra time to recoup with the mini bye week, and they're still in a decent position to make the playoffs heading into this Sunday's matchup with the Falcons.
Biggest Weaknesses:
- Right Tackle
- Guard
- Nose Tackle
- Center
- Tight End
Add Now: OT La'el Collins
Abraham Lucas has yet to play in a game this season, and ESPN's Brady Henderson reported last Friday that Lucas will miss this week's contest as well. Meanwhile, Stone Forsythe has been struggling to hold down the fort with 35 pressures surrendered and a 51.6 run-blocking grade from Pro Football Focus.
So, the Seahawks should look into bringing in a reinforcement at right tackle, and Collins is one of their best options at this stage.
2025 Free Agency: LB Robert Spillane, Las Vegas Raiders
Starting linebackers Jerome Baker and Tyrel Dodson are on one-year deals, so Seattle will likely be looking for at least one linebacker this offseason. The challenge is the front office is currently projected to have just $6.3 million of cap space available, per Over The Cap, so the club will have to find some cost-effective solutions.
Spillane shouldn't be too expensive, as he was a backup/spot starter for most of his career and turns 29 in December. That being said, he's been a full-time starter during the past two seasons in Las Vegas and made an impact a as run defender. The seven-year pro has logged over 200 total tackles in his last 22 games heading into this weekend.
2025 NFL Draft: OL Emery Jones Jr., LSU
As mentioned above, Lucas has battled injuries this year. On top of that, he's only under contract through 2025. Also, Connor Williams and Laken Tomlinson are impending free agents, so the Seahawks could use an offensive lineman who can line up at right tackle or play on the interior.
Jones currently plays right tackle at LSU but has the potential to move to guard in the pros, making him a good fit in Seattle.
"Overall, Jones has the frame, play strength and demeanor to deliver jolt, displacement and high-level finishes with the youth and flashes of proper posture and strike timing in pass protection to indicate considerable upside," B/R's offensive line scout Brandon Thorn said via the Tiger's scouting report.
"But shaky body control and balance too often sap his ability to sustain, leaving more questions than answers in his projection to the NFL."
(Previous Week's Selections: EDGE Marquis Haynes, G Will Fries, OT Josh Simmons)
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
30 of 32
Week 6 will be remembered as the Sean Tucker game for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The second-year running back had just 53 total yards in his career heading into Sunday but racked up 136 yards on the ground while adding another 56 as a receiver. Additionally, not only did Tucker log his first rushing touchdown, but he also recorded his first receiving score to cap off an impressive performance.
That helped Tampa Bay overcome its own mistakes and still pull out a dominant 24-point win while dropping 51 on New Orleans. The victory also allowed the Bucs to keep pace with the Falcons in the division standings.
Biggest Weaknesses:
- Center
- Tight End
- Edge-Rusher
- Guard
- 3rd Wide Receiver
Add Now: S Adrian Amos
Antoine Winfield Jr. just returned from injury this week after not playing since the season opener, while Jordan Whitehead and Christian Izien were on this past week's injury report. With that in mind, the Buccaneers might want to add a veteran safety to the depth chart just in case.
Amos didn't get much playing time with the Jets and Texans last season, but he did allow just a 62.2 passer rating when targeted and earned an 89.6 run defense grade from Pro Football Focus on his limited opportunities.
2025 Free Agency: WR Darius Slayton, New York Giants
Chris Godwin is an impending free agent and, given the current wide receiver market, it's going to be tough for Tampa Bay to afford him in free agency. According to Over The Cap, the organization is currently projected to have about $28.3 million of cap space available while only having 42 players under contract.
So, the front office should look into some cheaper options to pair with Mike Evans and Jalen McMillan next season. Slayton shouldn't be too expensive and he's been productive throughout his career with over 700 yards in four out of five seasons while dealing with the Giants' sub-par quarterback play over the years.
2025 NFL Draft: LB Danny Stutsman, Oklahoma
With starting linebackers Lavonte David and K.J. Britt expected to hit free agency this offseason, Jason Licht will likely be diving into this year's linebacker class in the draft. The Oklahoma product is an intriguing prospect, as he has a good blend of size and movement skills to work with, his instincts just need some work.
"In coverage, Stutsman's speed is apparent as he can cover the flat quickly, close to converge on the ball after the catch and be effective when playing Tampa 2," the Sooner's scouting report says. "Also, his impressive change of direction skills and fluid hips will help him take away running backs and tight ends in man coverage."
(Previous Week's Selections: OL La'el Collins, IOL Austin Corbett, EDGE Princely Umanmielen)
Tennessee Titans
31 of 32
Week 6 might be known as the point when the Titans season went into desperation mode. Facing a banged-up Colts team with Joe Flacco starting for an injured Anthony Richardson, the Titans still couldn't muster a win.
The Colts have had one of the worst pass defenses in the early stages of the season. Will Levis only had 95 passing yards on 27 attempts. The run game was promising and the defense largely held the Colts offense in check, but it was all overshadowed by the lack of explosiveness on offense.
Biggest Weaknesses:
- Interior Defensive Line
- Tight End
- Right Tackle
- Quarterback
- Wide Receiver
Add Now: DT Tommy Togiai, Houston Texans Practice Squad
The Titans are too far away from competing to make any sweeping trades. Yet, they need to remain competitive through this part of the season and are dealing with a shallow rotation of interior defenders. With Keondre Coburn out, they just don't have many people who can play on the inside.
Tommy Togiai is available to be poached from the Houston Texans practice squad. He got some run with the Cleveland Browns in 2021 and 2022 and is only 25 years old.
2025 Free Agency: TE Tyler Conklin, New York Jets
The Chigoziem Okonkwo experiment should probably come to an end next season. The 25-year-old was a fantasy football darling for his athletic testing and pass-catching explosiveness in a small sample. However, he doesn't make enough plays to warrant his poor blocking.
The Titans would be wise to find a more reliable tight end who brings more complete package of blocking and receiving. Tyler Conklin has proven himself as a starting tight end who can do both. He's not going to lead the team in explosive plays, but he's a solid blocker and has good hands.
2025 NFL Draft: WR Tetairoa McMillan, Arizona
This pick comes directly from Brent Sobleski's latest top 10 mock draft. As Sobleski noted, the Titans could realistically go into next season with a still-unclear picture of Will Levis. He has been up and down so far this season and there's definitely a scenario where the Titans look at the available quarterbacks and stick with Levis for another season.
If that's the case, they have to make sure he has plenty of weapons. DeAndre Hopkins is an impending free agent whose age makes it unlikely that he should be re-signed. Drafting Tetairoa McMillan, one of the premier receivers in the class, would give them a solid 1-2 punch with Calvin Ridley.
(Previous Week's Selections: EDGE Myjai Sanders, WR Tee Higgins, QB Carson Beck)
Washington Commanders
32 of 32
While there are no moral victories in the NFL, the Washington Commanders have to feel good about their performance in Baltimore.
Washington was facing a perennial playoff club and didn't look overmatched at all. The team held its own to make it a one-possession contest and kept fighting until the last whistle. The loss might sting, but in the big picture, the Commanders are still leading the NFC East after six weeks and should have built some confidence to build on for the rest of the campaign.
Biggest Weaknesses:
- Cornerback
- Edge-Rusher
- Defensive Tackle
- Wide Receiver
- Offensive Tackle
Add Now: Trade for WR Amari Cooper, Cleveland Browns
While the Commanders' offense has been humming for the majority of the season so far, the front office might want to explore adding one more receiver before the trade deadline. Cooper recently appeared as the No. 4 overall player on B/R's NFL Trade Block Big Board and was named a good pickup for the team.
"Washington is building an exciting offense around rookie sensation Jayden Daniels," B/R's Kristopher Knox wrote. "Part of the plan has involved surrounding the quarterback with seasoned veterans like Austin Ekeler and Zach Ertz. Adding Cooper would follow that plan and give Daniels another top-tier target opposite Terry McLaurin."
2025 Free Agency: EDGE Khalil Mack, Los Angeles Chargers
Washington's edge-rushers aren't terribly impressive right now, and the position group will likely take a hit in the offseason since Dante Fowler Jr. and Clelin Ferrell are impending free agents. With a current projection of over $120 million of cap space, per Over The Cap, the front office should go after a big fish on the open market this spring.
Mack will be one of the top players available at the position, and even at 33 years old, he's still playing at a high level with 19.5 sacks in his last 21 games heading into this past weekend.
2025 NFL Draft: OT Josh Simmons, Ohio State
As mentioned last week, Adam Peters will likely be diving into this year's offensive tackle class with Cornelius Lucas' contract about to expire. While this year's draft class isn't great at the position, the Buckeye has been a riser so far this season and is someone to keep tabs on moving forward.
"With shades of Christian Darrisaw in his body type and movement skills, Simmons is a stoutly built, easy mover with impressive range as a pass protector to handle himself on an island," B/R's offensive line scout Brandon Thorn said. He also shows good competitive toughness and physicality."
However, it is worth noting that Simmons is likely out for the rest of the season after suffering an injury on Saturday against Oregon.
