Sean Taylor to Be Honored By Commanders with Statue After Stadium Memorial Removed
Sean Taylor will finally get a statue outside of FedEx Field.
John Keim of ESPN reported Saturday that the Commanders are going to build a statue in honor of the late safety and have taken down the display that had previously been created to honor him in 2022.
"After careful consideration, we have decided as an organization to remove the Sean Taylor installation from Commanders Field," a team spokesperson said in a statement, per Keim. "We realize that the installation fell short in honoring one of our franchise's most iconic players. Together with the Taylor family, we are working on a plan, which includes unveiling a statue that will rightfully celebrate the legacy and impact that Sean had on our organization, fanbase and community. The Washington Commanders are committed to honoring our legends in a first-class manner."

The Commanders made the announcement in a post on X that features Taylor's daughter, Jackie. She was 18 months old when Sean died in 2007.
"I'm thankful for Josh Harris and the Commanders family for their continued commitment to keep my dad's legacy alive," Jackie Taylor said. "I look forward to sharing plans in the future and learning more about my dad through this process."
Taylor spent three-and-a-half seasons with Washington, registering 305 tackles, 12 interceptions and two sacks. He was named to two Pro Bowls and was named second-team All-Pro posthumously for the 2007 season.
The display dedicated to him in 2022 was controversial due to its simple design and perceived lack of effort. This came during Dan Snyder's tenure as the team's owner, and the new ownership group led by Josh Harris is quickly addressing this issue.
Taylor will become the first player in franchise history to be honored with a statue. There is no current date set for the statue to be unveiled.
