Christian McCaffrey's Brother Luke's Fantasy Value After Jahan Dotson Trade to Eagles
Luke McCaffrey may be moving up the Washington Commanders' depth chart.
On Thursday, the Philadelphia Eagles announced they acquired wide receiver Jahan Dotson and a 2025 fifth-round pick from the Commanders in exchange for a third-round pick and two seventh-rounds picks in the 2025 draft.
Dotson figured to be one of the wide receivers battling for playing time with McCaffrey after Washington selected the brother of San Francisco 49ers star running back Christian McCaffrey with a third-round pick in this year's draft.

With Dotson no longer on the roster, Luke McCaffrey suddenly becomes far more intriguing from a fantasy perspective. That is especially the case for those participating in dynasty drafts ahead of the season who are looking for mid-round rookies to target.
There is no doubt Terry McLaurin is the top fantasy target when it comes to wide receivers in Washington. But the roster overhaul behind him is a major reason McCaffrey is suddenly on the radar of fantasy football players.
Curtis Samuel was the team's second-leading receiver last year, and he is now on the Buffalo Bills. Dotson was the third-leading receiver, and he is now on the Eagles. There is a void for another wide receiver target to emerge for rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, and McCaffrey could be the one to fill it.
After all, potential secondary targets like Olamide Zaccheaus and Jamison Crowder don't exactly scream Justin Jefferson and Ja'Marr Chase going into the 2024 campaign.
McCaffrey showed enough at Rice to merit the Commanders using a third-round pick on him, and they surely won't want to bury that potential on the depth chart. He proved he can be productive at the collegiate level in his final season with 71 catches for 992 and 13 touchdowns, and that kind of nose for the end zone will turn heads in fantasy circles.
The rookie had two catches for 25 yards in the preseason opener against the New York Jets and two catches for 30 yards in the second game against the Miami Dolphins. He is growing accustomed to the speed of the NFL game and will have the chance to pick up more experience on Sunday against the New England Patriots.
That's not to say fantasy players in traditional drafts should suddenly take a chance on McCaffrey in the early rounds. He is still an unproven rookie who didn't play against the best competition at Rice.
But even the potential that he could become Washington's No. 2 wide receiver behind McLaurin this season makes him worth a late-round flier. He offers a far higher ceiling than most who are selected near the end of the draft, and his status as a rookie makes him a possible long-term weapon for dynasty players.
That, along with a higher immediate ceiling without Dotson, gives McCaffrey real fantasy football value.
