Per Over the Cap, the Commanders saved just over $2 million by trading Dotson.
The 24-year-old still has two years remaining on his rookie contract and could be under team control even longer if Philadelphia decides to exercise his fifth-year option for the 2026 season.
Dotson's 2022 rookie season was promising, as he hauled in 35 receptions for 523 yards and seven touchdowns. He wasn't able to cement his status as Washington's No. 2 receiver in 2023, averaging a mere 30.5 yards per game and recording just 518 total yards despite appearing in five more contests compared to the previous year.
While Dotson will operate behind A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith on Philadelphia's depth chart, he still has a chance to emerge as the No. 3 option in the passing game for quarterback Jalen Hurts in the slot.
Although Brown and Smith both surpassed 1,000 yards in 2023, Olamide Zaccheaus recorded the third-highest receiving total among Eagles wideouts with 164 yards.
As Philadelphia attempts to bounce back from a disappointing wild card playoff loss after starting the season with a 10-1 record, the addition of Dotson could give Hurts another option in the pass game if the former No. 16 overall pick in the 2022 draft can thrive following a change of scenery.
