Tampa Bay Buccaneer Coach Search: 2 Down, Who's Next?
Two down, who's to go on this Magical Mystery Tour that the Glazers and Mark Dominik have embarked upon in search of someone to put Humpty Dumpty, aka, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, back together again.
You can just hear the excitement building out there as the Tampa Bay ownership brothers along with Mark "I saved my job" Dominik, have now officially interviewed Jerry Gray and Mike Sherman.
Gary is the D-coordinator from Tennessee, Sherman is the recently-fired Texas A&M coach.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Wow.
It really sounds like you can scratch the name of Jeff Fisher from the sweepstakes. There's a perceived battle building for his services between St. Louis and Miami and it sounds for all intents and purposes like the fellas have no desire to pay what someone is going to pay for the Fisher King.
Which brings us back to our dilemma here in Tampa.
Who is next?
We've suggested Rich Bisaccia. And if indeed the Glazers say their search will be "exhaustive," then Bisaccia needs to be on that interview list.
Former Buccaneer offensive lineman Ian Beckles, now a talking head on 620 WDAE's Ron and Ian morning show, is stumping for Rod Marinelli. Marinelli's fine and he might be a great candidate if you can get past the 0-16 in Detroit.
The interest is heating up for Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin, but he hasn't shown up on the Bucs radar yet.
Brian Billick will not be the next coach of the Buccaneers, scratch him off your list.
The coordinator parade still has Rob Chudzinski (Carolina), Mike Mularkey (Falcons), Mike Zimmer (Cincinnati) and Mike McCoy (Denver) as possibilities.
Wow.
Bill Cowher will not be coaching the 2012 Buccaneers.
Which brings us to two interesting names who have proven they can develop quarterbacks and isn't this all about No. 5?
Mark Dominik has said in the past that it's all about five.
If that's the case, then consider these names:
Tom Clements, Marc Trestman.
Clements first.
Those of us elderly gents watched him play quarterback for Ara (Parseghian) back when the Golden Domers were really, truly relevant. Clements led the 1973 Irish to an 11-0 record and a victory over Alabama in the Sugar Bowl. It was 24-23 in one of the most thrilling championship games ever.
Clements threw for 360 yards in that game. He went on to become a CFL legend and has spent the last 19 years coaching and producing quarterbacks who simply play well.
He brought Brett Favre back from the dead. Then came Aaron Rodgers and we don't have to say anything about how he's played this season. Then there was Matt Flynn last week, who simply looked like Rodgers wearing a different jersey number.
You want someone who can revive Josh Freeman? Better interview Clements.
Put him on your list, Dominik.
The one thing Trestman has done since he started coaching at the University of Miami in 1983 is develop solid, outstanding quarterbacks. A lot of them.
He's a guy who has really paid his dues and quite frankly, the Bucs should take a serious look at him.
If you want to think outside the box, then Trestman should be in that thought process.
Surely Clements and Trestman trump Gray or Sherman.
So far, this Buccaneer search party has put on one big snooze-fest.
Hopefully they can come up with someone who will wake everyone up.
