Cowboys' Jerry Jones Clarifies CeeDee Lamb Contract Comments: WR is 'Missed'
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones still doesn't seem to have much urgency when it comes to signing CeeDee Lamb, but he clarified that the wide receiver is missed.
"No one appreciates CeeDee being on the field more than I do," he said in comments during an appearance on Countdown to Kickoff (relayed by Jori Epstein of Yahoo Sports) on Sunday. "… No, there's not that urgency. Now, I understand completely that angst that's happening when you're anxious about it and someone says anything about whether you're missed or not. Well, CeeDee, you're missed."
Jones' comments come after he previously told reporters, "I don't have any urgency to get it done" when discussing a potential contract extension with Lamb.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮
Dallas is in something of a precarious position, as Lamb is entering the final year of his contract. That alone would be notable, but quarterback Dak Prescott is signed for just one more season while star pass-rusher Micah Parsons is signed for just two more campaigns.
All three are in line for massive extensions, which raises questions about whether the front office will willingly pay all three.
Lamb is under the spotlight for now, especially after he removed "America's Team" from his X bio and responded to Jones' comments with a simple "lol" on social media:
It certainly doesn't help the front office's position in any contract negotiations that the wide receiver market underwent a significant resetting this offseason. Justin Jefferson (average annual value of $35 million), A.J. Brown ($32 million per year), Amon-Ra St. Brown ($30 million per year) and Jaylen Waddle ($28.3 million per year) all inked notable extensions since the end of the 2023 season.
As for Lamb, he helped his own bargaining position with an incredible 2023 effort.
He posted a league-best 135 catches for 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns, which were all career-high marks. He is also just 25 years old and figures to continue putting up head-turning numbers during the immediate future.
Whether that future will be with the Cowboys or not remains to be seen, but Jones' comments are only adding a brighter spotlight to the situation as the 2024 season approaches.
