WWE Rumors: Seth Rollins, Dakota Kai Written Off Raw TV Due to Real-Life Injuries
WWE ran two storylines on Monday's episode of Raw to cover legitimate injuries to Seth Rollins and Dakota Kai.
Per Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio (starts at 1:00 mark), the injury angles were done to write both Rollins and Kai off television for the time being while they recover.
Meltzer noted he hasn't heard how significant either issue is, but Rollins could wrestle if needed because he's been medically cleared.
Rollins was involved in a promo segment with CM Punk and Drew McIntyre.
After Punk chased McIntyre out of the ring, Rollins was left standing all alone. Bronson Reed, who previously told Raw general manager Adam Pearce he was going to make a name for himself, attacked The Architect and laid him out with six consecutive Tsunamis.
They sold the angle extremely hard on television, with Rollins bleeding from the mouth in an attempt to indicate possible internal bleeding and being taken away in an ambulance.
Kai was advertised to wrestle Sonya Deville on the show, but she was taken out in a backstage attack by Deville, Zoey Stark and Shayna Baszler. IYO Sky took Kai's spot in the match, earning a win over Deville.
The nature of Kai's injury is unclear. She has been wrestling regularly, including teaming with Sky to defeat Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair in a tag match on July 27 during WWE's tour of Japan. Her last television match on the July 8 episode of Raw when Damage CTRL defeated Katana Chance, Kayden Carter and Lyra Valkyria in a six-woman tag match.
Rollins had knee surgery in April to repair a torn meniscus in January. He was able to work through WrestleMania before taking a two-month hiatus to recover.
Since returning to television on the June 17 episode of Raw, Rollins' lone match was against Damian Priest for the world heavyweight title at Money in the Bank. The bout turned into a triple-threat match when McIntyre cashed in his title shot won earlier in the show.
Priest retained the title by pinning McIntyre after interference from Punk. Rollins served as the special referee for the Punk-McIntyre bout at SummerSlam.
Whenever Rollins returns, he will almost certainly have to enter a feud with Reed in the wake of Monday's attack. He also has a bubbling feud with Punk that could potentially be saved for WrestleMania, depending on how long he will be out of action.
