Biles Adds Another Gold; Nedoroscik Takes Bronze
2 of 5
Simone Biles continued her brilliant Olympics on Saturday, earning her third gold medal at these games by winning the vault competition.
She was joined on the podium by teammate Jade Carey, who took bronze in the event.
On the men's side, pommel horse hero and viral sensation Stephen Nedoroscik followed up his bronze in the team competition by taking bronze in the individual pommel horse competition.
Ireland's Rhys McClenaghan took the gold, while Kazakistan's Nariman Kurbanov claimed silver.
Katie Ledecky Makes History
3 of 5
Katie Ledecky became the first female swimmer in history to ever win four gold medals in the same event, holding off Australia's Ariarne Titmus to win the 800m freestyle.
Paige Madden of the United States took bronze.
Ledecky's ninth gold medal also tied her with Mark Spitz and Carl Lewis for the second most gold medals in United States history, trailing only the incomparable Michael Phelps (23).
USWNT, USA Men's Basketball Win
4 of 5
Trinity Rodman has the USWNT one step closer to a gold medal.
The star forward scored the game-winning goal in extra time as the USWNT survived a tough game against Japan in the quarterfinal round.
The USWNT will face Germany in the semis, which needed penalties to advance past Canada.
Spain also advanced to the semifinals. The defending World Cup champions needed penalties—and a second-half stoppage time equalizer from Irene Paredes—to see off Colombia.
France and Brazil were in action at the time of publication for the final berth in the semis.
As for men's basketball action, the United States blew out Puerto Rico, 104-83, behind Anthony Edwards' 26 points.
Joel Embiid added 15 points and three boards for the Americans.
Ryan Crouser Highlights Day 2 in Track and Field
5 of 5
Make it three straight gold medals for the United States' Ryan Crouser in the shot put.
The day's premier event in track and field was undoubtedly the women's 100m final, however, with all eyes on Sha'Carri Richardson. It was not to be her day, however, as a slow start out of the blocks led to a silver medal, while Julien Alfred claimed Saint Lucia's first-ever gold medal.
Melissa Jefferson claimed bronze for the United States.
