Dodgers Rumors: Garrett Crochet 'at the Top' of LA's 2024 MLB Trade Deadline Wishlist
The Los Angeles Dodgers reportedly have Chicago White Sox left-handed starter Garrett Crochet "at the top" of their list as the July 30 trade deadline approaches.
"Chicago White Sox lefty Garrett Crochet is considered to be at the top of the Dodgers' list, regardless of whether he's a starter or a reliever the rest of the way (Crochet, a converted starter, has already topped 100 innings after throwing no more than 65 in a season dating to his days at Tennessee)," ESPN's Alden Gonzalez wrote. "He could be, at the very least, a key multi-inning member of the Dodgers' bullpen -- but the White Sox will ask for a return based on his value as a starter nonetheless."

Speed Strikes Out Big Papi
The 25-year-old Crochet, a 6'6" left-hander, is 6-6 with a 3.02 ERA (0.93 WHIP) and 141 strikeouts over 18 starts.
Chicago currently has Crochet under team control over the next three seasons. However, the White Sox are also in disastrous shape with a 27-72 record that's not only worst in MLB but eight games worse than the next-closest team. They need a haul of prospects and players to get back in the mix down the road, and the highly-coveted Crochet could bring that to Chicago in a deal.
USA Today's Bob Nightengale also reported on June 30 that Chicago has "no optimism" regarding a long-term contract deal with Crochet, to the point that the team now eyes moving him before the July 30 trade deadline.
Meanwhile, the Dodgers are in contention as always, sitting atop the National League West with a 57-41 record. But the Dodgers' pitching staff has been hit hard with injuries.
Of note, Clayton Kershaw (left shoulder surgery) and Yoshinobu Yamamoto (right triceps tightness) are currently on the 60-day IL. Tyler Glasnow is on the 15-day IL with lower-back tightness but is thankfully expected back to return Wednesday against the San Francisco Giants.
In the lineup, the Dodgers have also been without superstar Mookie Betts since June 16 after he suffered a fractured left hand following a hit-by-pitch.
So they need some reinforcements, and adding the best pitcher on the trade block would be a great start, even if he ends up being a long reliever for the remainder of the season as Gonzalez suggested.
The Dodgers, of course, should have competition. Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported on June 20 that "every contending team" has interest in Crochet, which isn't a surprise given his performance and contract.
