Yankees Aaron Boone: 'It's All Right There in Front of Us' Despite Struggles
Aaron Boone sees the potential of the 2024 New York Yankees as the team prepares for the second half.
Following the Yankees' 6-5 loss to the Baltimore Orioles Sunday, Boone said that his team has a chance to do something special after slumping to the All-Star break.
"Even through some rough, rough stretches, it's all right there in front of us," Boone said, per Erik Boland of Newsday. "We've got the pen, we get to write this amazing script, and that's because we've put ourselves in that position."
The 2024 season has been up and down for the Yankees, to say the least. New York entered June with a 40-19 record and looked destined to cruise to an AL East crown. However, this pace slowed down in June as the Yankees compiled a 14-13 record. July has been even worse, as New York has gone 4-8.
This has resulted in the Orioles leapfrogging New York in the standings and teams like the Boston Red Sox inching closer. Sunday's game against the Orioles served as a strong example of the team's July, as the Yankees held a 5-3 lead with two outs but coughed it up to allow Baltimore to hold as the division leader.
Despite the struggles, New York is still in a solid position at 58-40 and hold the first Wild Card spot. The team should reach the postseason after missing out in 2023, and will have one of the most talented rosters of teams still playing in October.
Still, New York will need to rekindle it's earlier success to truly have a shot at contending for a 28th World Series trophy.
