Jayden Daniels Trolled by Young Fan With 'College GameDay' Sign After No. 5 LSU Jersey Saga

If Jayden Daniels thought the mockery toward him had dissipated, the former LSU star was sorely mistaken Saturday morning.

One young fan in a No. 5 jersey held a sign during College GameDay that read, "Jayden. Don't sue me. I'm only 7."

Daniels left Baton Rouge with a lot of goodwill thanks to winning the 2023 Heisman Trophy. However, he brought himself some scorn when he sent LSU a cease and desist letter for the use of his name, image and likeness.

The Washington Commanders quarterback was upset coach Lane Kiffin allowed cornerback DJ Pickett to wear No. 5 this year.

Any search on social media for the phrase "out of respect for Jayden Daniels" will yield a lot of jokes at his expense:

A little more consequentially, a portion of the Tigers fanbase turned on Daniels.

One long-standing axiom in sports is that no one player is bigger than the team. That applies particularly to college athletics, where athletes come and go so frequently.

In the case of Daniels, he won a Heisman but was only in Baton Rouge for two years. And during that time, LSU combined to go 20-7 and miss the College Football Playoff. The 2022 and 2023 seasons weren't that memorable in the grand scheme of things.

Daniels didn't do enough to warrant the kind of status he was expecting in the eyes of some fans. Joe Burrow likewise was on campus for just two years but played a starring role on what was one of the greatest college teams in modern history.

In time, a lot of this will probably be forgotten, and the No. 5 jersey could eventually be retired in Daniels' honor. For now, he'd be advised to steer clear of Louisiana.
