Kyle Filipowski's Top Potential Landing Spots in 2024 NBA Draft After Day 1
Duke standout Kyle Filipowski remains on the board after Day 1 of the 2024 NBA Draft.
Several NBA teams that could decide to use their second-round pick to select the Blue Devils big man Thursday night, including:
- Toronto Raptors (No. 31)
- Utah Jazz (No. 32)
- Portland Trail Blazers (No. 40)
Filipowski recovered from hip surgery last offseason to average 16.4 points and 8.3 rebounds through 36 starts for Duke in 2023-24, but raised concerns with his wingspan and speed measurements at the scouting combine.
Toronto Raptors

The Toronto Raptors could start off the second round of the draft by adding size to their roster with Filipowski.
After going in a different direction by targeting a potential three-and-D guard in Baylor standout Ja'Kobe Walter in the first round, Toronto may decide to draft a paint protector in the second.
Filipowski broke out as a defender during the 2023-24 season as he averaged 1.5 blocks and 1.1 steals per game.
He also developed as a passer for the Blue Devils, which could be a draw for the Raptors. Like backup center Kelly Olynyk, a playmaker whom the team paired with Scottie Barnes last season, Toronto could target Filipowski in the hopes he will help the team's young stars space out the floor.
Utah Jazz

If the Jazz decide to go with the best player available when selecting second in Friday's round, they might end up choosing Filipowski. ESPN ranks him behind only Kansas' Johnny Furphy as the top prospect still available heading into the second round.
Utah could use a playmaker to help replace Kelly Olynyk after trading him to the Raptors in February. Filipowski's size and passing abilities may give the Jazz hope he could develop into that role in Utah.
If the Jazz target the former Duke standout, the team could hope to pair Filipowski with center Walker Kessler. After the 2022-23 Rookie of the Year finalist saw his production decrease during his second NBA season, a new frontcourt pairing could potentially help foster a bounce-back campaign this fall.
Portland Trail Blazers

The Blazers earlier this month hosted Filipowski for a workout, during which NBA.com's Casey Holdahl reported the big man was focused on showing Portland that the 34.8 shooting rate he marked from behind the arc in 2023-24 is sustainable in the NBA.
"I'm glad to be able to show how well I think I can shoot the three, how well I can just pass the ball, how I scan the floor and read the court with the spacing," Filipowski said after the workout, per Holdahl.
If Filipowski was able to prove his three-point consistency, the Blazers could decide to target him in order to add some much-needed shooting from deep. Portland ranked last in the NBA in shooting from behind the arc last season, so the prospect of adding a big man who can shoot could drive the Blazers to target Filipowski if he slips down as low as No. 40.
